Do you have intrusive, unwanted thoughts? About what? Do they get worse or more uncontrollable when you're under stress? When you can't get the thoughts out of your head, do you become frustrated or depressed? What are some coping mechanisms?

I have OCD. The manifestations come and go, but the thing I'm most obsessed with is my own inadequacies. Unfortunately, I have a lot of them. I'm constantly bombarded with random memories of past mistakes, (even twenty-year-old ones) embarrassing situations I've been in, and the times I failed to act. I battle these thoughts with thoughts of the people who love me, (anyway) sometimes even saying their names out loud without realizing it.

I also love books, and a good story will carry me away from anything. I do get depressed and angry, at times, even so. It's a revolving door: more stress means more compulsions, more compulsions equal more stress.

If you (or someone you know) has this problem, and has access to health care, talk to a doctor about it. There are medications (like Prozac) that shut those thoughts off like a switch. Not all those medications work the same way with everyone, though, and it takes a good doctor, and a few trial and errors, to get it perfect. But then it's like you're a new person, with a huge weight suddenly lifted away. Well worth it.

I do have OCD. I have thoughts of death and destruction, and also of horrible things happening to my son.... I try to think of something better... it doesn't always work though.
