I have a hamster whose almost 2 years old. last night I found a lump on her side that wasn't there the day before or even earlier that day from what I could see. she was bleeding from two spots on it last night, but tonight she had 3 wounds on it. it doesn't seem to be hurting her until you touch it to see it better then she bites. Other wise she walks fine, rolls in her ball fine, and from what I've been seeing, eating and drinking fine. Please help me figure out what's wrong and how to fix it. I'm not attached enough to worry about vets in my tiny town.

I care alot about her, and would be upset if she died. but I don't want to have to spend hundreds on her when I can fix it at home.

Thanks for all the support. we found out what was bitting her. a few of the spiders around our house has gotten stuck in her ball and bite her. she's doing better now.

hey,
i think the blood and the lump is an insect bite. She could have a reaction to a simple mossy bite, or some type of insect.
It could also be a spider bite. so if she starts getting sick here are the symtoms:
~ Sitting in the corner
~her hair sticking up
~she tends to close her eyes.
these are symptoms of sickness.
If her lumps get bigger, i suggest taking her to the vet!
come on, we all have to pay bills sometimes, and it wont be Hundreds!
hope this helps...

Try a vet consultation.. if the hamster is two years old I don't think there would be anything they'd do that would cost much.. That is at the end of it's lifespan.. (I have had one live to 4, but it's rare.. ).. So, I would just TALK to a vet even if it's just over the phone.. find out how much it would be to put the hamster to sleep.. and then just watch.. if the hamster seems to be in pain.. have it put to sleep.. No vet should put an animal through a painful and expensive procedure when the odds are, the animal will not live much longer anyway..

It wont cost you hundreds. my hamster was sick and treated at the vets on Monday and cost me £18 in total, including medicine. So no excuses. You take better care of that pet of yours and get her seen to immediatly by a vet. When you take on a bpet its health and happiness is your responsibility, and so are vet bills.
