its sad but true. some people think cats are nasty, conniving little animals that want their souls. but really cats are curious and loving. Ive met some outdoor cats that are really weird but they stay away from me if they don't want anything to do with me. all cats should have their own backyard as a dog would but not all cats are going to stay in there. dogs can be curious but can also hurt people alot worse if loose. i think you should just watch out for people with food on their porch or by their trash cans. neighbors that dont like animals outside try to poison them by feeding them with raw or house chemicals.

What are the rules at the condo? If there are no specific rules for loose cats I think you'd be smart to get a sentence put into the rules to protect what you think is your cat's right.
However, my personal opinion is that cats are safer if they're kept indoors. Why? Here are my reasons:
1. They are less likely to get fleas
2. They won't get injured in fights with other animals
3. They won't be exposed to diseases from other cats
4. You can socialize & train them so you're their best bud
5. Using interactive toys, both you & your pet can have
playtime several times a day - a benefit to both of you.
6. You don't have to worry about being reported by a
neighbor if your cat goes on their patio.
Do what you feel is right for you & your cat. But, do be sure to review the rules/regulations of your condo.

There are only two things you can do: Keep the cat in or move. Some areas have leash laws so you could face a fine if your cat is running loose. They can damage gardens and hunt birds. If your neighbor is a bird watcher it is a real problem. The tenants have the rights. The cat only has the rights you give it WITHIN your home. Your cat will live longer if you keep it inside and won't have as many vet bills.

Your cat would be *much* safer & live longer if you keep him inside. Give your 'natural hunter' some interesting toys & play with him often & after he gets used to the idea he'll be purrfectly happy.
If your neighbors are complaining about your cat being on their balcony, at best this isn't fair to your neighbors & at worst your cat could be in danger if he's making enemies.

I live in a condo complex as well and know the rules. I own 2 cats and they are strictly indoor cats for all the reasons listed below. They are safer inside...We had problems with roaming cats at our condo complex and the health department came out with humane traps to catch them if they did not keep them indoors after being warned, because cat feces attracts mice. and like someone said earlier they got in the trash dumpsters, walked on peoples cars etc. Some people would leave their cats outdoors in the dead of cold.
so I see it one way you see it another...what do you really think your cat would prefer? to be healthy, parasite free, to have your love & attention in a warm home with toys etc. or deal with all the risks & affects of raoming loose outside? Do you really believe that is what your cat would choose?

You have to follow the rules of the condo. Now that means keeping your cat inside. This would be a misserable existance for a cat as you have stated they are natural hunters.
Keep the cat and move.
Get rid of the cat and stay.

Cats are much safer when they are indoor kitties. They live longer, healthier and happier lives. There are way too many dangers out there in the outside world including cars and dogs and other cats, other critters, diseases, and people's trash and whatever is in that. It's much fairer for them to be kept safe inside than allowed to roam.
It's obvious that your community has rules against pets wandering onto other people's property. This is because they leave poop in other flower beds and can be a nuisance if someone doesn't happen to like cats. Cats may have rights, but so do the people who are paying to live there.

Not everyone likes cats. You knew the rules when you moved in and are thereby expected to live by them. If you do not then they have the right to ask you to move. Yes, cats are natural hunters (although one of mine is not) but if you want to allow it to roam then you need to find a place to live were your "next door" neighbor will not complain and you do not have to abide by the rules set by other people.
