Sounds like she might just be doing what my vet calls a reverse sneeze..hopefully thats all it is.Look in any chihuahua book..it tells you all about them. They are lower to the ground and pick up more dust and pollens..so they sneeze..only it's called a reverse sneeze because they seem to be "sucking in" the air..their bodies get really skinny looking and they hunch up their backs.they are just cleaning their air passages.Sweep floors when they are not in the room, vaccum often.Alot of times, pollens cause this outside too. Most will be fine without meds,The less meds in these lil guys the better.

What does it sound like? My chihuahua mix has asthma and she wheezes a lot and sometimes it sounds like a whistle then she will cough a lot and I can tell her attacks by the ribs sinking in. My shihtzu has a deformed ribcage that causes some problems and she has a loud snore noise. If it is different sounding than normal i would call the vet or find an animal ER if you have one. It could be nothing or it could be something and really we can't tell on here. Smaller dogs choke really easy and she could have gotten into something and swallowed it, my dog did that with a rock.

oh my chihuahua mix sometimes does that as well.
i took her to the vet and it turns out she got some bronchitis. i am not saying urs might have that but i think it would be best if you go check.
my silky had that as well and i brought her to the vet and it turns out the only reason she was breathing funny was her flap at the back of her throat that was genetically deformed to make it to larger for her airways sometimes obstructed her breathing when she got excited. i hope this helps.
good luck
but when ever in doubt go see ur vet.!!

Take her to the Vet.
Too many problems associated with breathing issues for someone to determine over the internet.

if its serious, like she cant breathe properly and its really hurting her to breathe, then take her to the vet asap. if its like shes weezing, then take her in the morning... hope shes gonna be okay...

best wishes

My chihuahua did the samething, my other one does this hacking sound. it has something to do with the pipe in the neck I really dont know what its called? but it could get worse if you walk your dong on a leash and it pulls on the collar as it walks.

The ER doctor and paramedics motto is "don't second guess CALL EMS!" So in this case dont second guess your dogs health and take him to the vet! Its better that you get a false alarm then a dead chihuahua.

Try gently rubbing her throat, and calming her. My chihuahuas do this when they get too excited. It its what I think. If it continues too long, then of course call the vet!

Don't try to figure this out on your own. Err on the side of caution and call your vet. She could have something stuck in her airway.
