Yes one would need to have faith to believe in him because his existence can neither be proved nor disproved and unless you have seen him for yourself then there's not much else to go by except maybe for the testimonies of others.
Sometimes though there are things which seem to point in the direction of there being a God. Just like you can't see atomic particles directly you can still see the trails they make in a bubble chamber.
Science doesn't have a lot of the answers and indeed the mere existence of the universe and the things in it seems to be a mystery that science can't properly explain so therefore one might want to conclude that God sometimes somehow plays/played a role in how some things come or came about.

The definition of faith is the belief in something that cannot be necessarily proven with the senses. So yes, you could say that 'faith' is needed to believe in God. There are some people who have perceived God in a more tangible way, so for them it would not take faith to believe, because they have experienced 'proof'. For the rest of us, faith is needed. Even saying well a holy book (Bible or any of the others) says God exists and therefore I believe... well it is still faith. You don't believe every word of Harry Potter either... see what I mean?

It helps I guess. I've always known him, so I don't need faith. I know people that tote a bible everywhere they go, like Linus with his security blanket, because that's all they have is "faith". The only problem is I know for sure that he exists, so what will be my excuse for the way that I have lived come judgement day? Heavenly Father is not pleased with this wikcked, fallen child of his, I can assure you! By the way I am THE ALLAMERICAN!!!!

The bible says you must have faith. But it's not about what's written in a book. It's about what's written in your heart. Faith is a byproduct of a desire to know God and the acknowledgment that you need Him. Reasoning will not produce faith, but faith will produce the most profound reasoning.

Yes I believe you must have faith to believe in God. With out faith you would most certainly question your belief in something that we can not always see or feel. When bad things happen you must have faith in God to help us through and make things right or at least the way they were meant to be.

Faith in it's infancy is hope.
Faith in it's maturity is knowledge.
There is a difference. The more you study and watch all of God's creation, and learn and follow His Commandments and the greatest of them all (which is to Love God with all your heart and secondly inseparable, to love your neighbor as you love yourself), then knowledge will grow.
Ignorance is not bliss.
God is Intellect and purity of thought and spirit. Those who do not seek intelligence and who do not seek purity will never agree with God, but will suffer for their own actions and then afterward blame God for allowing it - Freedom of Choice means there is an effect to our efforts, whether good or bad.

faith is believing in the UNSEEN ..... no one can believe in God without faith or belief that God exists...
it would be a lie if you say you love God, and you don't love your Brother/sister/parents etc.....because how can you love someone you cannot see when you can see, feel, touch etc.. those who you love?
the bible is our only and main proof in the existence of God, it's the only proof we need as Christians to solidify our faith in God... I feel the bible is the most important book to Christians because it tells the history of our religion, from Genesis to Revelations....
One must believe and have faith in order to understand the greatness of God......

You need faith both ways, to believe in God and to not to believe in Him. There is not absolute proof either way. So, YES, you need to have faith to believe in God.
I believe that the Bible is true.

Would you have faith in the advanced scientific mind that created us. Or would you have faith in the inferior scientific minds that are the created. Faith is faith and I'll put my faith in the One that knows the most science, God.

Romans 4:1-3
What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
2For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
because of Abrahams faith he was accounted righteous in Gods eyes.
without faith we cannot please God
Hebrews 11:4-6
By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
