What you have is a nice healthy boy. I would not put cereal in his bottle as his young digestive system can't handle it yet. Just feed him 5 oz and play with him so he tires out and sleeps well. The pacifier might be a good thing to satisfy his sucking desire. I had a 10 lb plus baby boy, and I was lucky enough to nurse him for 10 mos. or I might have gone broke! He gained 1 lb a week for a loooong time. He is still off the charts at 15 but is slimming down and growing UP!

My second child (I have 5), was 9.1lb when he was born and he was ravenous all the time! I fed him myself and I had loads of milk. (I could fill a 9 ounce bottle from each side!) He would eat from me and then have a couple of ounces from a bottle too. He put on over a pound a week for a while. My health visitor nagged me and said I was feeding him too much. She had no children of her own! I told her if she could think of anything else which would shut him up, she was welcome to try. He was just so greedy and screamed his head off until he was fed. By the time he was 8 months old, he weighed 29.6lb and could eat 3 weetabix! He is now 13 and very healthy. He is not overweight and doesn't overeat. You can get a baby milk for hungrier babies so I'd try that if I was you and if it's hot, try him with some boiled water as he may just need fluid. Also, when babies have a growth spurt, they tend to eat more often and then it settles down again. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Even if he does put a lot of weight on, he'll soon lose it when he gets mobile. Good luck and congratulations!

Don't go by clothing sizes. When my son was BORN he wore 6 mo clothes. He was off the charts, now he's tall for his age and in the 50% on weight. Don't worry.
Eating is his JOB. Don't listen to anyone but the doc on how much your child needs. NEVER give a baby water unless the doc tells you to. He could die, literally. He is WAY too young for cereal, even watered down. He doesn't have the ability to swallow that correctly and you will be taking a chance that it will go into his lungs and make him VERY sick.
At 6 weeks, my son started a HUGE growth spurt and ate SO much, but he slowed down in a couple of weeks. Yours will too. Just be patient.
Good luck and best wishes.
Edit: In response to what MACgirl added. I agree. Make sure feeding is the LAST thing you check. When my son was first born, I actually made a list for when I was very tired and for dad when he was on baby watch. It was something like:
Diaper
Paci
Swaddling
Too hot
Too cold
Holding and SHHUSHHing
Rocking
Music/Singing
THEN, feeding
There is a book called "On Becoming Babywise" that is great. A friend reccommended it to my when my son was born. You can usually get it cheap on Ebay or half.com

yes it is too early to start him on spoon feeding, hes not even 2 months old yet. and parents are URGED to wait til he is at least 4 months to spoon feed or to feed him anything other than formula to make sure that he doesnt have an allergic reaction to anything other than formula... try feeding him 6-7 oz of formula and waiting as long as you can in between feedings... some babies cry because they are just thirsty, so give him 4 oz of water in between feedings... you dont want your baby to be an overweight one... so just dont give him a bottle everytime he cries. I know that since he is getting bigger and staying awake longer he's not used to it and doesnt know what else to do other than cry and eat and sleep... I hope this was helpful!!! I have 3 little girls i know exactly what that is all about!! =) GOOD LUCK!! and Congrats on the new baby!!

7 and a half weeks is early for spoon feeding, he may not know what to do with the food in his mouth since he's only used to suckling and may not have complete control of his tongue yet. He may be going through a growth spurt and his feeding could even out in the coming weeks.

Call your doctor to ask about feeding.
I want to add: it's important to make sure baby is really really hungry. Sometimes feeding baby is the only solution we can think of when we aren't sure what's wrong. Talk to the doctor about ways to know that baby is actually hungry so you aren't just sticking a nipple in his mouth when you're not sure what else to do. THAT'S how you teach bad eating habits!

definitely talk to your doctor about it. A friend of mine, who is a doctor just had a baby and she told me that it is actually good when babies are big. they will have less problems with weight when they are older.

maybe when he cries and you think hes crying to be fed, try sticking a pacifier in his mouth and see if it stops his crying... otherwise you might be feeding him and he may not want it but hes still got room in his tummy for it
