this DID exist. I got it for about 5 years, it was a 3 or 4 week process of getting a shot per week, once it was done I could roll in poison ivy and not catch it. Before hand, If ivy was in the air I got it and got it pretty good.
I asked about this once I was in the army and stationed in Ft. Stewart, GA and they didnt know about it. a little research pointed at a few different things but what exactly I was given I do not know. It was a purple liquid is what I remember.

I got an email from my sis and she got it cleaning out weeds in her garden. There is no poison ivy here in this dry desert. But I swear when I was a kid living back in Virginia that stuff used to reach out of the woods and grab me. I hated it. My mother could clean the yard with her bare hands and never get poison ivy.

My sister had poison ivy this year too and we had to take her to the doctor...they gave her a shot cause it kept spreading. And sent her home with a 6 day prescription and lotion to dry it up. In like 2 days I noticed a big difference. Good Luck!

I never heard of a shot but there is a product you can buy at the drug store called "Ivy Block" that is a simple white lotion you can put on his arms and legs if you are sending him out to play somewhere you suspect might be infested with poison ivy. It really works! I am terribly sensitive and have actually brushed the stuff with my arm after it was coated with this lotion and managed to avoid any rash. Of course, you need to make sure he gets good and clean and doesn't wear the same clothes until they get washed thoroughly. The oil stays on clothes.

i've never heard of such a shot- but i DO know of a plant that will counter-act the poison ivy. Virginia Creeper (usually found in areas where poison ivy is prone) contains a oil in its leaves that will stop poison ivy irritation. so if you rub virginia creeper on ur hands before you go to cut down a poison ivy vine, you wont be irritated by it.

Haven't heard anything about that yet. They have steroid injections to suppress the allergic response to poison ivy if it's bad enough. I got lucky enough that mine was bad enough.....40% body surface area. I looked like a leper! I would have KILLED for the shot that you describe! HA
Check with a local pharmacy. The pharmacist should be able to direct you better than me! Good luck!

Sorry, that's wishful thinking. If yoru son gets it a lot, can you perhaps alert him to what he should avoid? Prevention is a lot easier than trying to clear it up - and much less painful!
