It's partially true, and partially rumor. Back in 2005 and 2006 the Navy was talking about starting a Naval Infantry, and converting sever different rates to that. It has mostly been talk, and not much has been heard of it since. Not to say that it has been squashed, but there hasn't been any action taken on developing the Naval Infantry. Currently the Navy has brought back an old fighting group called Riverine Squadrons. This group is made up of volunteers from any rate. They are given training in infantry, and river warfare. This is bringing back what used to be used during the Vietnam war and were known as brown water navy. I digress, the talk of a Naval Infantry being formed hasn't gone forward since the talk was brought up back in 2005/2006. I'm sure there is still some study being done on the feasibility of such a force being formed.

I can tell you it is not true due to the AO's
They are not trained from infantry. They are trained in Aviation Ordinance. It would be rediculous to use them anywhere else when Red Shirts are ones who keep the planes locked and loaded.
Also IS and CT? Come on. They aren't trained to carry a gun.

your friend is a twit and pays too much attention to sea stories.
The Riverines are their own rating. just as SEAL is now. No more source rating for SpecOps.
