Please don't say that it's okay to believe everything that you are told because you have faith!

You believed prior to examining the evidence. You believed because someone you trusted told you a wonderful sounding story. Never mind for a moment that the person who told you this story neglected to tell you of the ugliness to be found in the Bible. Nevertheless, you believed based upon what someone told you whom you trusted. And that best explains why you are in the denomination you are presently in too, although you might be in one because of someone else you trusted, or something you read too. But this is merely switching rooms in the same house.

And that person whom you trusted believed for the same reasons. Someone he or she trusted told him or her the gospel story which was also believed prior to examining the evidence. I argue this chain of one person passing on that story to the next generation stretches back to the first century, too. But as we get back into the ancient superstitious past, people believed in lots of divinities and miracles based upon no evidence at all—none.

Okay so far?

Here’s the deal. You believe based upon a person you trusted and in the story itself. In doing so it brings you a comforting (but delusional) relationship with God, which includes forgiveness, friends, and saves you from hell. And from that day forward you filter all of the evidence through your faith.

I don't know any Christians that get emotional and believe everything they are told even if it DOES make sense...let alone believing things that don't make sense. The Christians I know question all sorts of things that they are taught...they argue with the pastor and even send him "hate mail" when they disagree with him, they study the bible and talk to other people they trust about the sermons, they debate other Christians about various interpretations of the bible.

Think about it...how else could you explain all the denominations? If Christians believed everything they were told we would all believe what we were told from the very beginning...all the divisions in the church are a result of people that did NOT believe things that didn't make sense to them and decided to surround themselves with like-minded people.

I'm speaking from experience here...my parents dragged me from church to church when I was young trying to find a place that was consistent with their beliefs...finally, when I was in my early teens, my dad and a couple of other men he'd met through that journey started their own church founded on the principles they believed were most important. The church I attend now is very different in structure, organization...but both share a fundamental set of beliefs.

Christians do not believe everything that they are told. Neither do they always get emotional. If I believed everything I was told and didn't question and rationalize then I would believe this question to be a fact, but I can clearly see it makes no sense. Many Christians examine all they are told and make their own decisions.

I hate when questions are asked but then we are told how to answer them. Isn't pretty much everything you learn in life in some form "told" to you? As a Christian I feel like I'm smart enough to decide what things I'm being "told" are truthful and what aren't. Faith is only the start, once you have faith, the proof presents itself. What you fear is the unknown, you don't have a better answer so you criticize mine. But, you've done absolutely nothing to find out for yourself. Unless you are willing to search with an open heart and mind, don't criticize those of us who took the chance.

Why is it that only atheist are allowed to judge others and have a opinion on faith ? When Christians speak their opinion even when asked for it we are sheep, or believe everything we hear or are zealots.

Also I love how all you atheist can speak for how Christians think and feel, when you have no clue about Christianity. I believe being an atheist is just an easy way for you to not have to worry about repercussions in the hereafter.

I think the smart ones question everything, and the churches don't usually appreciate that. But, at the end of the day, there is no hard and fast proof of the thing we hang our belief system on. We have our reasons and we have some facts to back them up, but there is no such thing as Christianity without faith.

I do not know a single true Christan that believes everything they are told. True Christan's study for themselves and compare everything they are told with the Bible. The Christan's that get emotional and believe everything they are told have never actually studied the bible.

hey....CHRISTIANS get emotional??? what about muslims??? dont they get emotional? ive that muslims are in fact SO emotional about their religion that some even fly planes into buildings, kill innocent people, and basically piss of the whole world and then label it a 'holy war.' so instead of bashing a religion that this country was founded on, why dont you bash a religion that TRULY makes no sense, like islam. seriously, their "great prophet" was a muslim merchant who claimed to have seen an angel in a remot mountain the middle of the desert.

unique sin does not flow lower back to caveman days. It is going lower back to the priesthood. we are advised by capacity of the monks that mankind introduced unique sin down upon us, and God grew to become into in simple terms not all-powerful adequate to take it away lower back. So this creates a extensive guilt complicated interior the believers. yet wait, say the monks, there is wish. by way of fact Jesus grew to become into killed (can everyone say human blood sacrifice?) for you in case you have faith you would be stored. exhilaration for the believers and much extra guilt for people who query the dogma. (not in straightforward terms are they a sinner, yet they're rejecting the discomfort and suffering that Jesus went in spite of the incontrovertible fact that.) And whilst they swallow this delusion the monks have them hooked for existence. Rational human beings will ask your self in simple terms how all-powerful and loving God is that if he's compelled to push sin onto mankind, and then the only way he can save them is to have his son come down in human form and be brutally killed. Is that extremely the final theory that an all-powerful, omnicognizant, all loving deity ought to arise with? It jogs my memory of the Woody Allen quote: If evidently there is a God, i don't think of that he's evil. however the worst which you will say approximately him is that extremely he's an underachiever. human beings have progressed to be sympathetic to those that they be attentive to. it incredibly is a survival trait for societies. Anarchistic societies have died out by way of fact the cooperative societies have progressed swifter and extra perfect and supplanted them. Ethics and morality are memes, those evolve in societies interior the comparable way that genes evolve in bodies. This has been going on considering before human beings existed. To characteristic such habit on your very own deity is insulting to the humanity of the guy and denying the reality of thousands and thousands of years of the evolution of societies.
