Is there anyone on here who is or has been in the military who has been stationed in Germany?

I am wanting to know, what are the rules? My husband is in the army and he could be re-stationed to Germany if he re-enlists. I just want to know what are the rules? How many animals(pets) are we allowed to have? What type of vehicles would be alright to bring with us? What are the rules of the road(s) in Germany?

Please help me as I just want to know so I can keep it in mind.

Thank you!

also, if you bring pets. what are the rules of the pets? I mean a friend of mine told me that they do not allow animals that are agressive or sick. is that still one of the rules or has that changed?

Hi! We were stationed At Ramstein for 3 years. You can take 2 animals with you. The Govt. will pay to ship one car and if you choose to bring another you will pay for it out of pocket. There are tons of cheap cars at the Lemon lot so I'd advised just having one shipped and buy another when you get there if you need two cars. The rules of the road are just bout the same. You have to take a German drving test in order to get your license to drive in Germany. It's super easy, they give you abooklet to study so don't worry about that too much. They have an excellent class that introduces you to German culture as well as teaches you to say many common German phrases.

If you can go, GO. It's awesome! There is so much to see and do! Don't let te fact that tey speak German stand in your way from going places. They are very friendly and willing to help. I lovedthe market at Hamburg!

EDIT: Yes, there is a reg about certain breeds of dog...no pit bulls definitely. It's been about 5 years since we got back so you might want to check on the breeds allowed

I was there 74-76 so my info could be way off.

You don't want anything that sucks fuel. It's around 1 Euro per liter. We got a discount book for 100 liters per month on our ration card. Sugar, hard liquor, and smokes were also rationed. We paid $1.25 for a carton of smokes, $5.50 for a gallon of Jim Beam they were worth $20 and $50 off base.

Don't know about pets hopefully you will get a response from someone that does.

If you mean driving rules I always thought they had a better plan with priority roads, passing rules, litter laws. I spent a lot of weekend time on the autobahn. I was going 60mph (100km) and still passing people. There were a few playing NASCAR but not many. Not much different then most big cities here.

You will enjoy Germany!!!! Go now!!!

The ACS center should have information about that kind of stuff. Sorry never been to Germany. You can also look up military bases from his AKO account.

pets regs will depend on the housing office/base. each one will have different regs, but a health certificate is required, as is a quarantine period. certain breeds are NOT allowed at all.. mainly aggressive ones like Rotts and Pit Bulls.
