i would definately be getting a job to support myself. Even if you do have help from your parents/scholarship. I got a job when i was 15. I have had a job ever since and I'm going to be 24 next month. Getting a job definately helps you to COMPLETELY understand the value of your things....go for it.

No, 18 is not too old. I actually got my first job as a marketing assistant at a real estate office when I was between my freshman and sophomore year in college. However, I did have like 2 other jobs written on my resume, haha. (My dad's and my uncle's business). If you do want to start working, I highly suggest you do it now, rather than later, because experience is KEY. You really should get the ball rolling and see what is out there for you in order to gain some business-like or realworld knowledge to benefit you in the long run, or after you graduate to look for a full-time job. Just start off easy, since it will be new to you with the college classes being in your schedule, as well. Good Luck!

Totally Most kids start around the age they can drive. But the problem with that is usually not all the time but usually kids think they can skip college and just keep doing there job at lets say mcdonalds. They feel like they can go out on their own and thats y gettin their first job at a more older and mature age is a lot more sufficient! GOOD LUCK

I don't think it's too old at all. While I had my first job as soon as I turned 16, my husband only worked summers until he did his internships and residencies for his OD.

It all depends on what you want to do with your life. You want some extra spending money? You should get a job. You need to help out with the bills? You should get a job.

However, many future employers look at job-related experience in a better light than, say, working at McDonalds. Could you get an internship in your field? Starting out with unpaid internships over repeated years can get you a foot in the door for more prestigious (and paid) internships down the road. In other news, your future employers also look highly upon both your GPA and activity in your college. Instead of working a job, could you join clubs? In addition, if you choose to undertake a longer education track than a B.S. (ie: doctor, lawyer, etc), you might want to focus on your GPA and club credentials to get into good medical or judicial programs. Most medical schools aren't really concerned with a job at Target, but focus strongly on club-involvement and your grades in key courses.

You see, the answers vary... it's all up to you and your situation. If your financial situation dictates the need for a job, then go ahead and get one... but if you can afford to stick with building crucial career skills that will help you (one-day) get into a medical school or into the ideal job after college... then that's what I'd go for!

Good luck!

Fifteen is good for a first job, so you're definitely old enough.

Do you have to work? I spent 5 years at college struggling to make ends meet and didn't end up with a degree. I feel that taking out student loans would have given me the boost I needed to get good jobs later in life.

If you must have a job, a job on campus is best. They have no-stress, flexible positions for students that often have study time built in. My daughter was paid $12/hr to feed a scanner. I'd rather she didn't work either, but she's graduating 1/2 a year early, while working for car insurance & spending $$.

Take care, sweetheart,

I'm surprised you haven't had a job before, and it's a good time to start. However, if you JUST started college and have never juggled responsibilities along with a job, make sure that you can handle both before you commit to both. College can be hard to adjust to, and it's a lot of work. But it's time to get out there and make your own money, so good luck!

I don't see anything wrong with being 18 and starting a fist job. some people are younger and some are older. It depends on the family you come from and their financal situation on when someone gets their first job.

Definitely. I'm not getting a job until I'm 18...which I will be in a few months.
