And, then someone tells you it's their way or else you are doomed to go to Hell .... or you are doomed to everlasting ignorance if you believe in God?

Dear "confused" - Some folks think you are ignorant if you believe in God. Other folks want to define God according to their own denominational interpretation and then cram that definition into "reality". -- Now, I am confused. - smiles

No I'm a cynical bast@rd who knows I'm going to be offended enough to report whatever was said, to Pat Robertson and the 700 CLUB. Afterwards I will be rewarded with 77 virgins and my own gas guzzling SUV with Muhammad in spiritual Mecca. So your pretty much doomed in asking me to ever be open minded about anything. AMEN!

The everlasting Ignorance of Religion has survived many centuries and continue to plague our world with war intollerance and funny guys with signs yelling about the coming of the rapture in the bigger cities.

Firstly, I am not open minded and cheerful when I answer questions, at the moment I am very tired and would like to sleep if it weren't for homework.

Secondly, I think it's unfair that you say it is ignorant to beleive in God. Because everyone has their opinion to beleive, and it's not ignorance, it is personal freedom of beleif. Our free will.

Actually, I've gotten nastier as time has progressed. I've never disliked Christianity as much as I do now. I used to be all Polly Anna about religion--"Everyone is right, in a way, let's all be friends! Don't fight!"

Yeah. That idea flew out the window fairly quickly.

Lately, I wonder if I operate with previously unrecognised masochistic tendencies, when I log in to various Internet discussion forums, 'cos the fun seems to have gone poof, says she with a sigh.

Yep and if somebody doesn't like my answer, thats their problem and not mine. Telling me I'm doomed or what not isn't going to influence my beliefs one way or another, as I am secure with what I believe in.

better always to be open-minded and cheerful and not prejudiced.

hell or heaven... whatever...

there's one thing in life that most people should always do:

do good to others... always.

whether you believe on god or not... do good for/to others, this way you'll help contribute harmony and peace.
