It depends on the reason for the divorce. I have been divorced for nearly six years and this much I know from experience.

Good Luck!!!

Mr. Wizard - completely wrong, uneducated very irresponsible, and just FYI it might happen in the muslim world but never in the jewish world, how old are you to talk in such a way? do you know people in Israel pay every month money to their divorcee until the kids are 21 or for all her life if they lived a certain number of years by law of court? did you know that even if you don't get married and just live as a couple after a certain numebr of years the women can get authorization from court to obligate the man to support her for the rest of her life just as if they were married?
Jews were in fact the one of first legislators in history of the Ktuba which means that if a man divorces a women he must give her 4 rocks or something like that(was once a lot of money) that could provide 4 years of living(which in the old days was a long time to live and doesn't mean years as we mean today)
All the other answers are correct, but I have little knowledge about judaism because I'm secular so try the source I found it confirms.

edit: BTW if you get divorced in Israel not in front of a religious court but by civil court all the same laws that apply in the states / france and the UK apply as well in Israel which has based many of it's laws by them. but the religious courts also as I said have most of the same rules of monthly payments and half the property only you really have to prove that you tried as a couple to live together even if the man wants to divorce his wife he must have a good reason and must go through courses and if they don't help then it's final, whereas at the civil courts you just come and the judge authorizes the divorce just like anywhere else.

well, there are provisions in Judaism for divorciing if a couple is really incompatable or if there is a really good reason. Judaism sees that not every couple will be right for each other and has made a way for them to move on. There are proper ways to go about this and it's not as easy as a "regular western divorce", but it can and does happen and I've never really known anyone who thought worse of a Jew who was divorced!

well orthodox people the woman in normally looked down upon like she was the one that messed up. in less religious people it doesn't make a difference. and a cohain is also supposed to marry a virgin that is not adopted or converted.

Let's put it this way: women in such countries don't have divorce court advantages as such enjoyed excessively in American divorce courts.

In Judasim, half may well mean being CUT IN half.....not pretty.
