Exactly where in the fossil record is the evidence for progressive evolution (I've seen it stated a number of times on here that there is evidence), of actual transitional forms between major groups?

I have been looking at some of these sites that I have been provided with links to. At firs there seems to be some pretty compelling evidence. But if you take a deeper look they really jump to some big conclucions from what I see. For example the one creature that supposedly is a transitional whale because there are similarities in their ears. Another example..that frogs rabbits and birds come from the same anscestry because they have similar forelimbs. That is just far too much assumption in my book. it really seems ridiculous to me. I just can't buy it.

We have still yet to see any evidence of one species becoming another. Variations in the same species doesn't equate to evolution. For all we know at this stage is that those variations are preprogrammed in the DNA as possible variations. Mixing of DNA may make a new type of dog, but it is still a dog. So, even if a complex single cell organism managed to spontaneously form with perfect parts one time or even a thousand times, it wouldn't account for the wonderful variety of life here on Earth.

Ayyy, I'm so sick of the same questions over and over...
1) There's no such thing as an 'Evolutionist'. Evolution is a scientific fact as well as a scientific theory. It is neither a political or religious belief.
2) Transitional fossils (which, if you had bothered to look are rather easy to find on this magical machine that science brought you which we call the internet):
Fish to Amphibians
Tiktaalik roseae
Osteolepis
Eusthenopteron
Panderichthys
Elginerpeton
Obruchevichthys
Hynerpeton
Tulerpeton
Acanthostega
Ichthyostega
Pederpes finneyae
Eryops
Amphibians to Amniotes (early reptiles)
Proterogyrinus
Limnoscelis
Tseajaia
Solenodonsaurus
Hylonomus
Paleothyris
Synapsid (mammal-like "reptiles") to mammals
Protoclepsydrops
Clepsydrops
Dimetrodon
Procynosuchus
Thrinaxodon
Yanoconodon
Diapsid reptiles to birds
Yixianosaurus
Pedopenna
Archaeopteryx
Changchengornis
Confuciusornis
Ichthyornis
Evolution of whales
Pakicetus
Ambulocetus
Kutchicetus
Artiocetus
Dorudon
Basilosaurus
Eurhinodelphis
Mammalodon
Evolution of the horse
Hyracotherium
Mesohippus
Parahippus
Merychippus
Pliohippus
Equus
Non-human apes to modern humans
Pierolapithecus catalaunicus
Ardipithecus
Australopithecus
Homo rudolfensis
Homo habilis
Homo erectus
As for the old and rather silly attempt by anti-science people to try and claim that evolution is false because every single fossil of every single creature that has ever walked the earth has yet to be found - the fact that there some slim gaps are predicted by the theory of evolution.

There is skeletal evidence in museums of hominids (human-like creatures) which are neither similar to us (homo sapiens or Cro Magnons) nor to apes. They have distinctly different skulls (Neanderthals, for instance, but also much more ancient and primitive species). Those remains are fossil evidence for human ancestry through evolution. Of course, there are also such records of many other animals and plants. Just visit a natural history museum, and you will discover the material evidence.

I love it how people refer to science as a belief system. Evolution isn't something to believe, it's something to accept.
So are you ready for the proof of those darn transitional forms? You! Me! Trees! Every single biological organism, plant and animal is a transitional form. Evolution is always happening, it has been going on billions of years and will continue.
It's the little minds of the religious who fail to see that evolution is happening right in front of your eyes. Humans only live an average of 80 years, in that short life, we can't see evolution at work.

If you are actually OPEN to the possibility of learning something new and maybe even changing your mind, here's a good place to start unlearning some of the dogma you probably have been spoon-fed most of your life, and to start learning what we actually KNOW and can PROVE...:

Have fun seeing how we DO have evidence of one species becoming another, and all the different kinds of transitional fossils scientists have gathered, and how NOTHING we see in biology makes sense without the underlying principle of evolution to explain it all.

Scientists take distinguishable bones in fossils and compare them to those of other animals. The tail-bone, for instance is often used for comparison. There are so many similarities in the skeletal systems of animals and you can see the gradual changes between ancient fossils and bones today by comparing these bones. It's fascinating. Check it out.
Not to mention, DNA comparison helps us out a bit too.

There are a bunch of really nice lists here: http://www.holysmoke.org/tran-icr.htm
I would also note that a single transitional fossil is inconsistent with the story in Genesis.

Archaeopteryx is an obvious example, in which we see the first evidence of the transition between reptile and bird.
