If an atheist believes that when we die, we just cease to exist, but a Christian believes in heaven and hell, doesn't the atheist need more faith? If the atheist is right, the Christian will suffer the same fate and won't really be hurt by his beliefs. But if the Christian is right, the atheist is sure going to be sorry! So shouldn't the atheist, with so much at stake, be 100% absolutely sure of his beliefs, since he has so much more to lose?

It takes just as much faith to believe in atheism as it does to believe in God. To make the absolute statement “God does not exist” is to make a claim of knowing absolutely everything there is to know about everything – and of having been everywhere in the universe there is to go – and having witnessed everything there is to be seen. of course, no atheist would make these exact claims. However, that is essentially what they are claiming when they state that God does not exist.

No, not really. Put it this way, when your great grand parent died, do they come down from heaven to tell you "Hey boy, there is a heaven"? I guess not, it just prove they cease to exist. No faith required.

If the atheist is right, then he die. If the atheist is wrong, then he die. What is the difference?

Now, come the interesting part, if the christian is right, there is a GOD !!!!! Amen !!!!! It is ..... WHAT .... Isn't that Apollo? For believing in a hippi instead of Zesus, you will be the next bottom boy for Hades...... so ...... 100 years later, you son takes over your position ..... with a sore bottom, you move on ..... then Amen !!!! It is ..... WHAT .... Isn't that Vishnu? For believing in a hippi instead of Bharma, you will be the whipping boy for Siva ......... then ....... (the story continues until the next 50,000 gods which you disbelieved comes to the end then you cease to exist) what had you got to lose?

Your point will be valid if and only if there is only one religion. If there is MORE THEN ONE religion, You have more to lose, in your life and in your death.

Please read under Pascal Wager ...... this is a old story.

Ahh, Pascals wager? Well, for one thing, that logic is flawed because no matter what, it can't really make you believe. It just scares you into going to a church.

Plus, Pascal didn't really take into account the danger of living under false pretenses. Basing your life on something so silly as religion, making decisions based on something that imbecilic is quite dangerous.

In the end, pascal should have stuck with his triangle.

No, an atheist does not need any faith. Atheists do NOT believe in heaven or hell. What faith is needed NOT to believe something?

What faith is needed NOT to believe in the tooth fairy?
What faith is needed NOT to believe in the invisible pink unicorn?

Please do not play with semantics. No faith is needed to NOT believe in something. You only need faith to believe in something, those things that have no evidence to support it.

more perseverance more thought and time but no faith .
courage to seek the truth and become a free thinking peronally responsible individual beat faith hands down.
the reasonable man doesn't fret about deluded gambles there is nothing at stake in the world of imagination and dreams . don't fool myself with lies just like the plain and simple truth.

What you are saying is that it is more fun to believe in God and an afterlife. Well, it is a pretty appealing idea but that doesn't make it true.

I think if you concentrate more on what happens when you are alive and less on what happens after you die, then you will be happier in life. And who cares about after death.

Clink! Clink! Another drink!
There's plenty in the cellar when it's gone!
Drink! Drink! The glasses clink,
making tinkling music till the dawn is breaking!
Clang! Clang! Who cares a dang?
What's the difference when you're on a spree?
Over the teeth, behind the gums,
watch out stomach, here she comes,
Oh! Have another drink on meee!

Atheist's wager is smarter than Pascal's.

It says we know so little about God that it's equally plausible that by BELIEVING in God you can go to hell instead of the reverse. So yah, don't believe in anything.

I'd rather spend my eternity in hell than with some childish and vain God who damned me because I simply dared to doubt his existence. Satan and I will be rocking out to Slayer while you're stuck listening to Creed.
