i wonder what kind of evidence or proof people are looking for. are they unclear on the concept that god is not physical, and science deals only with the physical, and therefore has nothing to say about god either way?

Atheism is the logical conclusion, actually technically I guess the most logical choice would be weak agnostic atheism, although most atheists don't make this distinction unless in a philosophical debate.
We know how religion first evolved, we know it was not monotheistic. There has never been any reason to give religion any more credibility than any other archetype(idea/image) that could come out of the human mind, does this make a deity impossible? No, while most of the organized religions of today have been discredited, that does not mean a deity does not possibly exist, but to be purely agnostic to such matters would mean you would have to be Agnostic towards every possible archetype, which is being open minded to the point of gullibility.
Besides, since you did use 'God', I am supposing ;you mean the popular contemporary Abrahamic deity. I have studied a lot of religions, and few of them portray a deity as twisted.
Sending people do Hell for choosing the wrong religion? Religion is based on little more than culture. Around 3/4 of the world will choose their adult religion based on that of their parents, child indoctrination is highly psychological. Basically saying many of the poor, often starving and ill, children born in many African nations because they were indoctrinated into Hinduism or Buddhism or one of the many tribal religions yet the spoiled rich kids of the US and Europe will get eternal bliss. This is a rather small example as there are literally thousands of religions still practiced, and many do promote child indoctrination.
The actions view of many religions doesn't much work either, as how we act later in life is largely determined by how we were raised (nature vs nurture). Do I think I'm better than criminals? No. Most criminals grow up in incredibly screwed up conditions. The prison population is heavily overpopulated with blacks, is this because they are naturally more prone to doing bad things? No, it is because unfortunately there are still far fewer opportunitys for black children and a much higher percentage of them grow up in homes where drugs and abuse are present, fortunately this is starting to change. I, nor anyone, could say that with the same genes and the same conditions in which they grew up in they wouldn't be doing the same things.
The only possible afterlife scenario that would make philosophical sense would be that of Buddhism, the state of mind approach, where the users state of mind and intent are more important than the action itself, and Buddhism is an atheistic religion based on the natural laws of the universe.

I was not instilled with Faith. I am not one who can just believe because I have been told to every supper and Sunday.
Religions cause too much trouble. In a war each side claims God is on their side. This is even more so in collage football.
The 1st Christian Church, Catholic, for many years had its own army.
The Anglican church came about because the king of England at the time was refused a divorce by the Pope in Rome.
Islam hates Christians and vice versa. Christians claim Jews killed Christ. Jews who foretold the coming of Christ say He has yet to arrive. Both Jews and Christians hate Islam.
The Bible is incredibly violent and the God discribed is alternately a killer and a pacifist. Everyone who doesn't believe the right belief will go to Hell.
There are many very good belivers of God who always do the best for those around them but they only seem to deal with the pacivist parts of the Bible and seem not to notice all the death.
If God created everything then that would include hellish diseases -- small pox, leprasy, flu, cansers, malaria, etc. - insects like mosquitos, flies, wasps, bed bugs, ticks, paracites, termites - - animals - great white sharks, many poisonous snakes, people.pedofiles, rapists, soldiers that sing 'burn mother--s burn as incendiary bombs destroy buildings in which families are living (Iraq 2007 - US troops), raping and killing families in cold blood. Would you like more? I am glad I have no religion and have an inherent morality. Please excuse the spelling errors - spell check not working.

Personally i have found very little to no proof of a God. I grew up going to a Church, that is where i learned what kind of Evils can be perpetrated in Gods name. I wont get into the details and i know that not all Church Organizations are the same. After having this experience it made me question my belief in a God. So i started studying, i reread the Bible, i read a decent amount of the Qu ran, i read the Book of Mormon. After finding no answers in any of these Books i went to History and i started reading about Religion throughout History. This is where i found that most Abrahamic Religions source came from Egypt, and other older Religions. The fact that most of the Stories from the Bible were actually taken from older cultures kind of invalidated these Biblical Stories for me. So i had to make a decision, do i blindly believe what is being taught to me. Or do i use my rational Mind and decide for myself. I decided that i did not believe in the Christian God for sure. As the Stories just did not add up. Even the story of Jesus is the same as many older Religions Sun Gods. Since then i have looked into a lot of different Religions and their beliefs. Not to find a Faith but to understand Religion. I sincerely believe that if i am wrong and there is a Creator, that he cares as little about You and I as i care about Him.

I hereby present to you the Redundancy Award! Heck, take two!
This question has been asked countless times. In fact, you were probably shown a few examples of it when you started typing this question. Why ask it again, knowing you're wasting your points and everyone's time?
I don't believe in God due to the complete lack of evidence to support any religion's claims of the divine, coupled with the dishonest and downright evil behavior of far too many of the faithful. If any god whatsoever existed, it would leave some sort of evidence. If a god worth worshiping existed, it would not allow the fools, liars, thieves, hypocrites, and murderers that infest this planet to do their evil in its name.

I don't think anyone will ever understand the meaning of life. I believe that God is a strength that a person feels inside of themselves to make them keep moving forward and is also the feeling of love that everyone shares with each other. I don't read the bible because it doesn't make any sense to me. It sounds like stories that can never be proven, I don't attend church because I see people that go just to show up, and like I said, I believe God is within us. Atheist's have there belief that keeps them going forward, and to me, that is their God.

I believe in God. I guess it's not something you can really prove as by physical means, but if you think, just think, there is one. You can't physically prove to someone you love them because it's not physical, it's something you feel. How did we get here in the first place? Big Bang? Maybe. But how did a sudden explosion of something come from nothing? There is something beyond our knowledge. We may never find out and all you can do is really believe. Certain things you can prove and others you have to trust. Kinda like trusting your cocaine addicted cousin Reggie with twenty dollars to go buy groceries. You just have to be trusting sometimes. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, so I'll state mine: Atheists are doo doo heads. Good-bye.

Honestly i just dont think there is some mysterious person up in heaven that created everything. I think that Evolution and the big bang is just more plausible and realistic. Also because i just dont like how people thank God and give God credit for what that person has accomplished. I think God gets way too much credit for stuff that God doesn't do.

Short story. When I was three, I read "Twas the Night Before Christmas." We lived in an apartment, and my mother answered my question thus:
"Santa comes in through the fire escape."
OK, maybe.
So I looked out at all of the houses below, and to the building across the way, and asked, 'But how does he get to everybody in one night?"
My mother had no convincing answer.
So God went in with Santa and The Tooth Fairy and all of that other nonsense that adults told me.
I tried to believe, but I prayed for something personal, about fixing my body. I prayed finally for the right thing, to be made to accept my body as it is.
And it never helped.
There was no God, even when I prayed for the right thing.
I knew when I was three.
But I proved it at 14.

I'm an atheist because there is no proof, no logical explanation of the existence of god. I became an atheist because as a child I realized that there was no one listening when I prayed.

if you study the history of relgions, you willfind they all tell the same stories - and so many of the tales in the Bible are simply re-writes of earlier legends. There is no veracity.
Why beleive any of them? God, zeus, mithras, allah, jesus, mercury - they're all mythical creations.
I always fund it funnny how xians are so happy to view other relgions with a critical eye, but insist on blindly following their own myths
