I am considering getting a teacup poodle-not a toy poodle. I have a cat who mostly stays outside and a black lab who is fullgrown but isn't very big. Is this a good choice for a family of four??(kids are teens)

There is no such thing as a teacup poodle. Anyone saying they have such a breed is either a puppy mill or a dishonest backyard breeder. Stay away from them. Toy breeds have tons of health problems anyway. Buy one from someone just out to make a buck and you are going to have $$$$ of vet bills for the life of the dog.
I would say a toy breed dog would not be a good idea with a larger dog. If the larger dog even steps on the toy dog, it could be seriously injured.

Any dog has the potential to be a good pet. It depends on the owner to train the dog to be a good pet. Some are naturally better natured than others, but any can be taught to be good pets if they are treated properly. However, there is no such a thing as a teacup of any breed. AKC recommends against buying from a breeder advertising puppies as teacup since this means they are breeding dogs that are really too small to be safely bred. While the tiniest of dogs are awfully cute, they also are much more prone to having health problems. Stick to the breed standard for whatever type of dog you get. Dogs of all sizes will love you and be good pets if you just give them the love, attention, and care they deserve.

what some would call a "teacup" poodle IS a toy poodle, but it is the runt, and usually the dog with the most amount of health issues. Believe me, a regular toy poodle will be small enough when compared to 4 teenagers, a lab, and a cat.

There is no such thing as in a Teacup Poodle. Its just a substitue word for the runt of the litter, the one that was born the smallest are sold as "Teacup ______'s" Im sure they will be fine around kids and they make sweet little pets. I will not assure you on that though because every single dog can be different so if you get one thats good with kids congrats but if you get one that hates kids......good luck! A little bit training could be needed too if it's not too social or good with kids.

A teacup anything is not a good choice. If you read the breed standard, you will find that a "teacup" is not part of it. These are just runts bred to make more runts, which can come with a world of health issues as well. Any breeder advertising "teacup" is only a For Profit Breeder and looking to make a buck from people who have not done their research on the breed standards.

I would agree with everyone else, do not get a teacup poodle. They are very small and fragile, and if you get them from a bad source (or even a good one) they are likely to have a bunch of health problems. Adopting from the pound is much better, you can get very nice dogs and puppies there. And on average, mixed breed dogs are nicer than purebreeds.

There is no such thing as a teacup breed of anything.

Before you consider another dog or pet of any sort maybe you should consider bringing the cat indoors. Its much safer and healthier for them.

There is no such thing as a teacup poodle. It is the runt of the litter. Please don't buy a "teacup" poodle. If you find one in a shelter, and you really want a small poodle, then please take it, but don't support dishonest breeders by paying a lot of money for a dog who will have a lot of health problems.

Consider a shelter or petfinder.com to save the life of a puppy.
