these are negative qualities, right? Or are they positive in some Godly way I just don't understand?

William D's apologist explanations for anger notwithstanding, there is no excuse for jealousy. Jealousy is the product of an inferiority complex. Vengeance likewise is not something you'd expect to see in a loving, forgiving deity. If there is a "god" did it ever occur to anybody that such a thing might not have ANY human emotions, including love and forgiveness? Perhaps such a thing just "is." But that's not good enough for us paragons of creation. Either god is human-like or there is no god. I submit there may be a middle ground. Evolution, for example, does not preclude the existence of a creator, but on the other hand, it doesn't require one either. Astrophysicists can explain the genesis of the universe back to an astronomical fraction of a second and physics can explain the nucleosynthesis of the universe out of high energy plasma quark soup. It may turn out that science can meet theology more than half way. The problem is that if you remove one chink in the theologic house of cards, the whole thing falls apart. No wonder the church persecuted Galileo for stating the truth. No wonder there are people that believe mankind was created a mere 10,000 years ago. Anything else would go against the Bible, and if the Bible is wrong in one part, then the whole thing can be disbelieved.

Think of God's attitude in the same manner as your biological father. When you lie to your father he gets mad and punishes you so you become scared to do it again. He still loves you even though he yells and screams and may even spank you. Once you have the fear of punishment in you chances are you won't lie to him again. When you do and say good things to him and others he is proud of you and will hug and kiss you and tell you what a wonderful daughter you are. When your life is threatened he will kill if he has to to protect you. So what I guess I am trying to say is that it is a positive thing that God has these negative qualities towards His own children and those trying to hurt them.

Unlike human emotions, God's ardor is always just and righteous.
Anger and jealousy are not always negative, even in humans. A person who claims never to get angry is in a very unhealthy state of denial and is likely to erupt inappropriately. Jealousy is a healthy response to a threat to your marriage or other family relationships. Our human judgment may not always be correct, therefore we may become angered at others unjustly or see a threat where none exists.

I think people who see God this way believe God is those things to OTHERS, those others being the poor lost, sinners. The ancient people had that view of God and perpetuated it to keep people from straying to other gods. It's a child like mentality and image of God that goes along with if you're good, you get rewarded, if you're bad, out comes mean God...

We are to trust and obey God . He gets angry when we purposely disobey him , jealous when some one worships a false God that can't do any thing for them aka Allah ,budda ,hindu and he gets vengeful when we purposely hurt or takes it out on some one or thing.

I don't like to read the O/T because that is not the God I know, but in those days people's hearts were so hard maybe the God in the O/T was within his rights to bring them to heel.

Good question. Would you say that anger is good or bad? Suppose you saw a man beating his wife, calling her pig, spitting on her, choking her, yelling vulgarities at her, and all this in front of their tiny children. Would you be angry? God would.

There are good reasons to be angry, jealous, vengeful, from God's point of view just as there are good reasons to be angry from our point of view.

He is angry when we do not respect His creation and rules.
Jealous, He knows that there is no other gods and He hates to see us to lose His blessings. Vengeful, He keeps His Word, we should learn something about it.

His main message is for love, and it is offered for everyone. If you do not love Him, why should He bless you (you/one...generally speaking ) : )
