If the biopsy sample was small, it can be hard for the pathologist to make a diagnosis. This is often the case with an 'FNA'-a Fine Needle Aspiration. Sometimes it is necessary to take the lymph node out in order to make a final decision about what it is.

Please ask for another reading or another biopsy. You and your doctor need to be sure about this.

If the tics are not problematic at this point, I would wait to medicate. He may need them later on when/if the tics increase. My son is on the same track. He is now 12. His case is moderate, a lot like your sons. Is has gotten a little worse, but not much. He is on Chlonidine (actually it's a high blood pressure medicine) and this has worked well. It keeps his tics down by about 50%. A note about medicine: all medicines work differently for all patients. Unfortunately, all meds are hit and miss. You will have to use the trial and error method to see what meds or combination of meds work best for your child. There are some medicines that your child should not take if he also has ADD or ADHD. Ask your Neurologist. Some choose not to medicate at all. The best treatment I have found is a safe, stress free (as much as possible), loving home environment. Allow him to tic at home without comment from others. Do not punish him or ask him to stop tics. He can't. Be sure to inform all teachers and/or caregivers, Sunday school teachers and anyone else that is caring for your child not to punish him or ask him to stop. This is not to say don't discipline. You should treat him with the same love, respect, and discipline as always. I have found in public that when I treat him "normally" that others follow suit. Tourettes does not impede intelligence or aptitude for learning. I'll bet your child is smart! I can see that you are a loving, smart Mom, too! I hope this helps.

If it is suspect then it can also be something else.. That is what the doctor is trying to get at.. There is a possibility that it is just an infection.. Have they treated you with antibiotics?

You may want to see another doctor and have him test also.. You could ask the doctors you have already seen what he feels the issue is and if he will run the same tests again.

Dont think it is the worse because sometimes it isnt.. Keep your chin up...

Note:
*** I am a thyroid cancer survivor.. I saw 15 different doctors at 5 different hospitals before they diagnosed what was wrong.. Just be persistant and dont give up....

Go to another doctor and get more tests. I had a biopsy come back negative when I actually had stage three breast cancer.

I don't say that to scare you--but if you feel like you have a serious problem you need to keep getting tests until you feel sure about the results.

This is your body here..
You know that something isn't right - Yes, you ahve had tests and the results are sort of up in the air due to dr not sure re results..
As i said - Your body.. NOT ahppy with the result.. Go to another hospital - another dr - jump up and down and demand more tests - tell them you want answers..
It maybe nothing - But then again it might - Knowing now can get treatment started sooner then later..

good luck

You say "we suspect it is lymphoma" yet the pathologist is not sure after biopsy. Who are you meaning by "we"? Is this you and your family or medical professionals?

Your oncologist, quite rightly, is not starting treatment until he knows what to treat.

Treatment for any cancers can be very hard on the body, and can leave the patient open to other diseases. They vary widely dependant on exact diagnosis.

What sort of follow up testing/biopsy is your oncologist recommending?

Where cancer is suspected, most oncologists/doctors will organise testing as quickly as possible, to enable them to start correct treatment as soon as possible.

I am unsure which country you are from, but in the US a patient can ask for a second or third opinion for a pathology report. If it is possible that is what you should do . . ask for a second opinion and be persistent. You need a diagnosis.

Best wishes to you. Stay strong.
