Is it a law that if you are driving with your animal it is required to be in a kennel. Like dogs and cats.

I have never heard of a law such as this, but a seat belt or crate is a good idea when traveling with your pooch.
As horrid as this sounds, in an accident your dog can become a projectile. It is recommended that dogs travel in the back seat(because of airbags), thus your dog would going flying forward in a crash and besides being hurt or killed, could also injure you or a passenger in the front seat. The dog is going to keep moving if the car come to a sudden halt. "a 25-pound dog that is unsecured in a car traveling only 20 miles per hour, can become a projectile exerting over 500 pounds of force on itself and other occupants."

You should check with your local vet to see if your area has some sort of law about that. Training your dog (or cat even) to travel in a kennel is a good idea. I know someone who got killed in a car crash because one of the dogs jumped on the gas pedal and they went flying off the road.

No, kennels are not required. But if you want to be safe you could try a dog seatbelt. They are only about $20 at pet stores.

Not that I know of, but they should be restrained for their own safety and so that the driver can focus on driving. My dogs broke out of their dog seatbelts in mere moments and one of them can bust through crates. We drive an suv and ordered a cargo gate from dog.com. They've been on 3 major roadtrips, and countless trips to the beach and are perfectly relaxed and happy to ride in the cargo area with the luggage. I just lay down a blanket and put in 2 stuffed animals and they're good to go.

No. The only restraint requirement I am aware of is in the back of pick-up trucks and I don't think even that is required in all states.
Kenneling is a good idea for small breeds but often not practical for large breed dogs. But they make doggie restraint systems for that - doggie seatbelts.

Each state may have different laws. I do not know of any state where that is the law, but it is a good idea. It keeps you dog safer in case of an accident.

Not here. They dont have that law. As Bozema said there is something against keeping your dog in back of your pick up truck which I think that shouldn't be illegal or legal it should be common sense to people; who would put a dog in back of your pick up truck! I believe its good to keep them restrained in some fashion. Law enforcement does not enforce these types of laws. Check with your local police as it is not a federal law.
