Yes, I believe you're right. :)
When something bad happens to us, it's a good time for a "soul cleaning", and for a rebirth. :)
Here's a New Moon :) , full of hope for better days :)

The moon is in spin matched to the earth spin as it has been there so long a time. The light from the sun as Einstein tells us is in two parts; corpuscular and pure radiation. You can guess how the moon can be a reflector only and sends us pure radiation. The effect is kept non secular... the pure energy actually can draw an energy from earth and all life forms. So we see a lively activity during the full moon. Even mythology tells us of its effect on the 'wolf type' male personality. But the womb too is timed with the moon cycle of 28 days. Seeds above the ground are planted during the full moon for best stimulus for growth. Water of the ocean is pulled by the gravity of the moon not the radiation. The sun is far more effective in waking us up each day and causing electrical storms our weather and electrical grids. Now what does it mean to you. Hmmm next time you are wide awake at night see if the full moon is there. The new half moon tonight is a good time for fertilization of the female as her womb died at the dark moon two weeks ago and the eggs are ready to make more children. It may not be spiritual as the bible is only dealing with the less hidden things of life and man. Nonetheless all temples in the world religions deal with the spiritual energies of life . We call that the aura. Not enough room here or in the bible to explain things like that.

So far two people here have confused the new moon with the full moon, and have compounded their mistake by repeating the untrue assertion that full (which they called new) moons make people crazier than normal.
I guess people will just read anything they want into just about any situation - kind of a definition of 'spirituality' right there, riotously irrational and not the least bit sensible.

Sorry I'm still laughing at all the people who are confusing a NEW moon with a FULL one. The new one is totally dark, guys!
Spiritual significance? It's a good time to draw things towards you, and that's about it.

I'm not Pagan, and my name isn't Dan. My real name is Doug, and I'm Christian. I call myself "pagan dan" because I live in Taiwan and "pagan dan" is Chinese for "bacon and eggs". Sort of like Mark Twain.
Many societies and relgions attach a symbolic importance to the New Moon. As do Christians. It is not a coincidence that Christmas takes place near the Winter Equinox, when the hours of light begin to increase, and Easter is at the Spring Solstice (when hours of sunlight and darkness are equal).
That's my take, even though many Christians will disagree.

God created the moon, so in that sense, I would say yes. But the real definition of New Moon, is the lunar phase that occurs when the Moon, in its monthly orbital motion around Earth, lies between Earth and the Sun, and is therefore in conjunction with the Sun as seen from Earth. At this time, the illuminated half of the Moon faces directly toward the Sun, and the dark or unilluminated portion of the Moon faces directly toward Earth, so that the Moon is invisible as seen from Earth.

It is a time for hidden things and darkness. It is a time for starting something new or banishing a thing old. The new moon is an opportunity to find a problem in our own dark side and get power over it. As it is one of those 'in-between' times, when one cycle ends and a new one begins, it is a VERY powerful time.
)o( Blessed Be!
