In Christianity, the trinity is a "so-called mystery." So if there is no scientific proof, then why do you believe it..?

In my opinion, in order to cover up the fact that the trinity has no scientific proof, people just say it is a sacred mystery..

In Islam, we regard Jesus as a prophet. And aside from that matter, Islam has scientific proof. Scientific proof of the miracles of the Quran : http://www.miraclesofthequran.com/scientific_index.html

Islam doesn't have any sacred mysteries.. Eveyrthing is clearly explained in the Quran, and all who misinterpret it's words and take them out of context, are plain ignorant.

If you guys could answer my question POLITELY, and maybe give my some more information on why you believe in the trinity, that would be great. thxs =]

P.S --> This isn't a question about Christianity vs. Islam, it is just a question about the validity of the trinity. I didn't write this question to offend anyone, but to have a debate. =D

Thxs again...=D

First, a note regarding the word "Trinity". Yes, you will not find the word trinity in the Bible. In fact, you will not even find the word "Bible" in the Bible. But that is not an issue. It is a word that abbreviates a concept. That concept being that God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are three distinct personalities within a single Godhead. It is like the concept of light. Is there such a thing as white light? Yes. Does it exist as one light? Technically, no. It exists as a compound unity of equal illumination of red, green and blue spectrum. So white light does NOT exist? Of course it does. But in the form of three-in-one. Science can explain it, and we have just gotten used to it. In the eternal, such things are equally possible and exist. God is light, and in Him, there is no darkness at all. What color? Pure white via a three-fold unity.

Here are specific scriptures in both the Tonakh and the New Testament. Quotes are by God, Jesus, disciples and apostles.

A Child is to be born as a man who will be the Mighty God.
Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jehovah says that He and the coming Redeemer are eternal.
Isaiah 44:6
"Thus says YHWH, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer [Yeshua], the YHWH of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God.'"

Jesus confirmed the above as well as His being the Almighty.
Revelation 1:8
Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Again, Who is the Redeemer? Who is the Savior? YHWH.
Isaiah 49:26
"All flesh shall know That I, YHWH, am your Savior, And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob."

Before He was born, Jesus identified the trinity.
Isaiah 48:16
"Come near to Me, hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; From the time that it was, I was there. And now the Lord GOD and His SPIRIT Have sent ME."

Three distinct personalities are seen in Jesus' baptism.
Matthew 3:16
When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

Jesus does not rebuke Thomas for calling Him God, but rather promises a blessing to those who would believe later.
John 20:28
And Thomas answered and said to Jesus, "My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

Paul confirms that Jesus is God.
Titus 2:11-14
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men... looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Philippians 2:5-7
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.

Jews sought to stone Jesus for claiming to be the eternal.
John 8
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”
Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”
Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Jesus says that He and the Father are ONE (heis in Greek which means literally the number 1) Jews seek to stone Him for claiming to be God incarnate.
John 10
"I and My Father are one."
Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.
Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?”
The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God."

****Important Note****
The whole reason the Jews sought to kill Jesus was because He, being a man, made Himself out to be God. If He was NOT God, then He was rightly put to death and was then a sacrifice WITH sin and blemish. Since He IS God, then His death was that of the Lamb WITHOUT spot or blemish.

To say it is not supported by scripture is to fall into extreme error and you will also have many contradictions to deal with. You will also have strange bedfellows who will support this error. http://schnebin.blogspot.com/2007/04/strange-bedfellows.html

I explain this and greater detail regarding the trinity in my study link below if you wish more detail on this question. http://www.schneblin.com/studies/pdfs/is_god_one_or_three.pdf

There is no proof we could give you that you would accept. To be a Christian is to acknowledge that God is not limited by the simple understanding of human beings, and just because we can't see something with our eyes doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Kind of like the atom. But tell me, since your koran is so proveable - how do you know all that scientific proof wasn't written by Satan? Last time I looked, he's been around almost as long as God. So it wouldn't be surprising that he would know about these things. Why don't you explain to me why you would bet your soul on the word of a single human being, with no miracles to his credit, just because he said so? Christians didn't just make up the trinity out of thin air. If you read the Bible for real, you will find the references we use to justify the reality of the trinity. Some people have a different interpretation of these references, but at least the references are there. In a book that involved a great many people over a great many years. Not on the word of one single person.

Like you, I am not trying to start a battle here, but all this "prove the trinity" stuff gets old after a while. Just say that the God we worship is too big for the pages of a book and has no need for us to prove He exists or how He functions. I'm sorry for people who can't believe in anything they can't "prove" in a laboratory.

There are verses in the Bible explaining the trinity, there is no mystery, the question is why do you believe the Quran? and not the Bible? Now to your question on the trinity, Read 1st John chapter 5: verse 7, For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one.Now Gospel of John 1 chapter verses 1&2, the word was with God and the Word was God, the same was in the beginning. Jesus was the word. There are many verses about the Holy Spirit starting in Genesis first chapter. Also John chapter 15, verses 1&2, tell of the trinity, Jesus said I AM the Vine, when he used the words I AM there which is one of many times he was saying that if you have seen me you have seen the Father, making himself equal with God. Obviously this is one of the reasons the Pharisees wanted to put him to death. But it was all part of Gods great plan of salvation for all mankind, which includes you by the way, If you are serious about studying it then send me an email with a question and I will try to explain it to you. Unless you are saved and have the Holy Spirit living inside you to guide you into all truths you will never really grasp what Jesus is talking about, 1st Cor. 2:14, But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Good luck with your seaching.

The Trinity is the belief that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are three Gods in one.Just do the math. Can 1+1+1=1?
No! 1+1+1=3.The Bible does not teach the trinity. What it does teach is that the Father is Jehovah, the son is Jesus and the holy spirit is an active force or power that is used to create miracles or powerful works. The holy spirit is not a person. Nowhere do we find any trinitarian doctrine of three distinct subjects of divine life and activity in the same Godhead.most of the texts used as “proof” of the Trinity actually mention only two persons, not three; so even if the Trinitarian explanation of the texts were correct, these would not prove that the Bible teaches the Trinity.
In John 14:28 Jesus says," the Father is greater than I am."
So Jesus recognized this fact.Titus 2:13 refers to “God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior."
We could go on and on with this subject.I am a christian and my information is Bible based.I hope my information is of some help to you.My God is not a God of mystery or confusion.

I think this is a great question. But, recognize when others observe a religion they are able to pick apart fundamental differences and label them as contradictions or doctrinal errors. The trinity doctrine has as much historical, theological and doctrinal impact as any practicing religion. For example I can't for the life understand why a book that espouses peace and wisdom allows for suicidal acts of violence and terrorism. The answeris, it doesn't, a few zealots have decided that this is their interpretation on what is being espoused by Islamic teachings. There is no way you can answer such a question without emotion or vigor. Please do not take my tone as obstinate but, energetic and instructional.
All Christians do not believe in the trinity nor do they make it a valid doctrine so there is really not a question to answer because then we would end up going back and forward about different invalid notions of Christianity vs. Islam. Here it is, Jesus is God manifested in the flesh, when he died and rose again he went to heaven so that the comforter the Holy Ghost could be sent in His stead. When that happened the third of the Godhead was sent to live in the hearts of men/women who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. I don't believe in answering questions for questions sake or to prove validity, but it is important that the gospel of Jesus Christ be spread because in the final hour the scripture lets us know that only those things that you do for Christ will ever last. So, trinity in reality doesn't have anything to do with salvation outside of explaining God's presence in the earth in three manifestations. Finally, as Christians we are not to be caught up what the bible terms, useless fables, myths, genealogies and debates that lead to nothing. Therefore, as a Child of God I can only answer any question according to the Word of God and not interpretation.

Hmmm... Believing is a by product of faith. Which is trusting and being sure of something though it is not seen, at least not with the natural eyes. The trinity is a christian 'concept' used to describe the 'unity of purpose' between the three personal characters of God. The Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit. I'm sure I've read in more than one place in the New Testament, where Jesus admonished the people for 'demanding proof' through visible signs. No offense intended.

The Bible speaks of the God head. The Trinity. In the beginning was God. I guess you got that part. You accept him by faith without ever seeing him and so do we. To each man is given a measure of faith. We go about believing that a new day dawns after the night but after God comes again the cycle of things that you come to know will be no more. I can't see a germ but I know they do exist. The Bible also said the Word was with God and the Word was God. Jesus is the Word. He said if you have seen me then you have seen the Father for in all matters they are the same. If you have seen one then you have seen the other. The people of that day did and we accept it by faith. When Jesus went to John The Baptist to be baptized;why; (because he said so the scripture would be fulfilled) the Spirit of God descended in the form of a dove and a voice from Heaven said; This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. The trinity.

You choose to believe in the one by faith and we the three in one by faith.

Those who have studied the Quran history can tell you that it was a book of many interpretations and that one leader had all others burned and his version of things as the only one.

First it is important to realise that God is infinit and we as finite beings can not understand the infinit. Thus the only scientificly viable ansewer to the question "Is there a God?"
is "I don't know." which is the reason that at one point I was agnostic.
Christians beleive in the Trinity becuse it is part of our sacred Tradtion. The ansewer given by t_uk2000
is rubish as Copts and the Syriacs who fell into schism with Rome and Constantinople in th 5th century are clearly Trinitarian. The Syriacs use Aramiac as their liturgical language..and we Eastern Orhtodox who excomunicated Rome circa 1054 have the concept of the Trinity and the Greek patriarchate has always used Greek. Thus the concept is clearly older than the 13th century.

Historically, Christians believe in two things 1) the things that can be reckoned by reason (this is why Christians can believe in science, although you will obviously find backlash and such--historically and now) and 2) divine revelation as found in Holy Scripture. The Trinity is counter-intuitive, (counter reason in fact!) however, this is what has been revealed in the Holy Scripture according to the Apostolic authority (in other words, those who knew the risen Jesus and passed his teaching on provided the framework for the interpretation of the Old and New Testaments.)

There is such a thing as faith since we are not capable or have the facility to grasp it yet since we are only human in sin? Since you want to have proof perhaps this will help you. The Sun produce spectrum of electromagnetic wave which we can see and cannot see. It have many quality we have just found out and understood a few. For example to be able to see the sun it produce light energy which is visible to our eyes. which only could be seen on the bright side of the earth. It also produce radio waves where even the dark side of the earth could received except the short waves. In this case it is omnipresent. It only very bright and hot to look at since it also transmit infra red heat wave. We have three quality of the Sun: Bright and Hot at a distance like God the Father, visible and can be felt on earth like the Son qnd Omnipresent like radio wave like the Holy spirit. They say that it will take more than eternity to understand Allah the Creator. In the concept of Trinity, He only reveal part of His quality in a way that could be understood Him. If you want proof tha you can understand about the Creator it is like an ant trying to understand the machine language of Microsoft Windows or Office. Be more humble and realize that you are only a small creation in the Universe and that we are really nothing compared to the whole Creation or the Universe or the Creator himself. I hope this will help you realize how futile it is to ask proof of HIM.

This question is a contradiction within itself. It is like asking the question why do people believe in religion? All religions are faith based now matter how much evidence is presented to support a specific religious groups validity. The Trinity is clearly explained in the bible and is not a so called "mystery", Science cannot explain everything. Especially the awesome wonder of God, anyone who has faith in a higher power should believe that. Faith comes before Science, even in the practice of Islam, not everything can be proven and we as humans should certainly not go around attacking faith in its strongest form, Religion.

debates are fun :)
