When I was a child I thought I would die if I didn't see my parents every day. Now I find it strange that I don't have the same relationship with them that I used to. They only live down the road so I see them heaps but I just don't feel like the connection is there like it used to be. It seems like once I had children of my own everything changed. Do other people find that or have my parents and I just gotten lazy with each other?

I'm only about 17 but I know what you mean. I used to need mommy and daddy time but now I just would rather talk to people I've made friends with as I've gotten older.

When you're little, your parents are perfect and do no wrong, you get older and realize they're human and the feeling of needing them all the time, goes away.

Yes I do. I have the same feeling as you do when I was growing up. There is nothing wrong with it. It is just that the older we get, the more independent we are and we will tend to do more things differently from our parents.

Of course you are not as close to your parents now that you have your own family. It's supposed to be like that. It's not that you love them less, but your time belongs to your spouse and children, and your relationship has changed. They should understand that because they went through the same thing.

I've found it to be the complete opposite. The older I get, the more life experience I have, the more I relate to and respect my parents and the closer we get.

yes, u are no longer a child and don't need them like u used to. it's normal. just remember, ur kids r going to feel the same way one day. they will emmulate ur behavior. so, if u make time for ur parents, they'll do that for u.

i think we all tend to separate from our parents for a while in our lives. don't worry, you'll come back together as you get a bit older.
