It is a 50-50 situation. The ref should not blow the whistle if the server does not have possesion of the ball (the ball was in the air); on the other hand, the server should not have tossed the ball before the ref blew the whistle.

You could have tried asking for a re-play, but if your request got turned down on the court, and you are now at home typing this question, there is less chance that you can get it back... a game lost is a lesson learned.

Most refs will typically stop play right away, give the player a warning to wait for the whistle and allow them to re-serve. While it's too bad they didn't, the real issue I have with your question though is that you're implying it was the referee's or the player's fault that the game was lost. A game is made up of more than one point. Try not to focus on this one event as the cause of your loss, instead, review the game as a whole, look for your team's weaknesses and work to fix those things. There will always be calls that don't go your way and teammates who make mistakes - no one is perfect. To improve as a team, look for the big picture things to focus on.

Technically, the referee was correct. Almost. By the letter of the rule, it is an illegal serve.
However, I try to handle the situation differently. When I am in that situation and I see the toss is before my whistle and I can not stop my whistle, I try to double whistle to stop the play very shortly after contact. I replay the play. If I see the toss and I can hold the whistle, I will just give the server a warning and an extremely dirty look for serving before the whistle. (And with all of my experience, I have a very mean dirty look.)

That's very unfortunate. The referee should have called for a replay as the serving motion initiated before the whistle. The rally does not start until the referee blows the whistle. Therefore, the player started the rally before the referee started the rally. Should have been replayed.

In my recreational league, the refs say play doesn't start until the whistle. If the server starts before the whistle, nothing at all has happened.

Neither determination has any influence on the effect and is in basic terms a query of ways a variety of of a ineffective frenzy you prefer to place your self by way of. the form of situation isn't reviewed via any league or adventure committee. The adventure is over whilst time has expired and the referee comes to a decision whilst time has expired.

That's unusual because in games I've played when someone's got to early, they've let them replay it.
It just depends on the ref I guess.

it depends on where the ball landed...if it lands inside the court the ref was correct...if not it shoulda been a replay...
