My 5 month old german shep puppy loves LOVES rawhide...she gnaws on them til they get all gooey and I know she must eat bits of it but she does so pretty slowly.. I have non- edible nylabones and the Kong, but I need ideas on what will really keep her attention- only the giant rawhides will keep her busy for awhile (I'm in law school, so I need chunks of uninterupted time)...please be as specific as possible (there are so many different types of stuff I get overwhelmed)

Our dogs like Bully (Beef) Sticks. They tend to last awhile. Two sights we have used to purchase are
artvarkpet.com
Preenpets.com

At preenpets you really need to order in bulk to get a good deal.

When I first got my dog I went to the pet store wanting to get some treats & stuff to keep her busy. I was told by the pet store owner that rawhides are so bad for a dog; mainly a puppy. Because they could easily swallow a piec & get it stuck in their throat so I never bought any for my puppy.
The pet store recommended bully stick & beef bone which both my dog loves. Plus they last forever! I bought a beef bone (looks like a flat piece of rib bone) a few months ago & it's still going strong. So give it a try & see if you dog likes it. I was also told the rib bone helps the dog to clean their teeth.

We have a 3 1/2 month old pit puppy and she LOVES and I do mean LOVES the "Bully braids". She will chew on that baby for a long time and it helps with the teething issues. She gets smelly farts from it but other than that......it's all natural and not bad for her digestive system.

Raw meaty bones that are not too dense are a good start. Other chewing toys - soft squeeky toys (no hard plastic bits or that silicone stuff for balancing) - you can buy the squeekers separately and buy a bunch of soft toys (I buy them at op shops - like goodwill) and then sew the squeekers into them.

Try www.k9rawdiets.com - they have a bunch of natural and organic chews and treats for dogs and seem to be pretty reasonable in their prices.

Ditch the rawhide. Its not safe, rawhide causes hundreds of surgery requiring intestinal blockages every year, and has no benefit for teeth.

Go with bully sticks instead.

raw beef soup bones (some call them marrow bones) from the grocery store. you can get 2 for about $1.50.

Cooked bones can splinter. they sell cooked bones at a pet store for $3-$5. Stay away from them.
