Tasmania is a state in Australia, but not part of the main continent, it's an island to the south. Just take a look at a world map and you'll see. Yes it is both a country and a continent, the worlds largest Island continent infact ! Tasmania is a state of Australia, the "apple Isle". PNG was once an Australian province or "territory" but not now and it's actually a running joke that NZ is apart of Australia, but don't dare mention that to the kiwis !

Its the worlds smallest continent and the worlds largest island. Go figure :) It is almost the size of Europe and has the one language with almost no local dialects spoken.
