School started last week (I started grade twelve) and all of a sudden, homework is driving me crazy, my friends are getting mad at me because I can't do much anymore, and now that I'm getting a job, I feel more stress.

I don't know why I am being such a baby about everything, why I worry so much! Are these emotions normal for a seventeen year old girl?

I am not sexually active, I have never been sexually active (seventeen is waaaay too young), so it cannot be pregnancy.

Thanks for your help!

First, I am so happy that you realize that sex is not for a seventeen year old!

Anyways, as for your stress, yes, it is very normal for students in grade twelve to feel very stressed. College is down the road, jobs are things to think about, and challenges are becoming harder; this isn't grade nine anymore.

You're not being a baby, you're acting the way you should be, but this is good...this means that you realize that you're no longer a small child and that you need to get ready for the adult world. Now that you've realized this, try and work things out. Make a schedule, tell your friends that you're busy (too bad if they don't like it), and just aim for your best.

Don't worry about this so much, just tell yourself everyday that you're going to make it through.

You are NORMAL !

Naming your sudden increase in stressors
is a good exercise to realize WHY you are feeling WHAT you are feeling. Nothing "baby" about it.

As one therapist told me, we each have only so much energy and emotional energy to use each day. The more you pile-on and the more changes and adjustments you're making.....each subtract from your daily energy pool.

To stay emotionally healthy, try to maintain as even a load as possible during school. Yes, 17 is a taxing year.
