I watch my sister's kid in the afternoon. The other day he brought a friend over. The friend had to go to the bathroom. I showed him where it was at. A few minutes later he announced that he was 'ready'. When I asked him what he was ready for he said 'wiping'.
I showed him the toilet paper. He said 'Mommy does that.' I said mommy's not here and I'm not going to do it, you need to. The kid had a fit and ended up just pulling up his pants.
My sister later informed that the kid's mother was furious that I let her kid walk around with an unwiped backside. My position is that I did everything reasonable and that if the kid can't wipe his own butt by age seven there's something wrong with his parents.

Definitely.

That's ridiculous.

I learned when I was 5...

They need to learn to teach their child...

pronto.

That's crazy... I wouldn't wipe his behind either!

Definitely not your fault... and not your problem.

That reminds me of this guy I knew in high school that refused to wipe his little brother's backside. I think a 7 year old should definately wipe his own butt.
My daughter has been doing it successfully since 3 1/2. I don't even have to wash out skid marks!
I'm like you...I don't think I would be wiping a 7 year old's butt when he's perfectly capable of doing it on his own. What in the world does he do when he's at school??

What in the world? That's nuts. My one and a half year old son is almost potty trained, and I show him how to wipe up after. Of course he needs a little help, but he's learning the concept that he needs to do it for himself. I can't imagine letting him think I'll be there to wipe his butt when he's seven, let alone him being brazen enough to think a stranger will do it! How bizarre.

I totally Agree. When My husbands children started coming around his son was 6 and his mom still wiped his butt too.well he ask me to whip his butt and I told him that when i worked in day care with 2 year olds i didn't whip their butts and I was not about to whip his. well he then did the same thing with just pulling up his pants but he didn't like it when i had him wash out his own underwear. The kids mother was mad at me and yelling but I just told her that , that what she was doing is wrong because you are not teaching the child Independence. I wonder if he is the only child or the youngest and the mom is trying to keep him a baby like my husbands ex.

Most children are potty trained by age 2 unless they have some type of disability. 7 years old is too old for someone but him wiping his butt. Mom needs to find a babysitter that wants to put up with that crap, lol honestly thats nasty.

I agree with you that the child should have been taught to take care of himself after using the bathroom. What does he do when he is at school? It isn't the child's fault that his Mom hasn't done her job. I think I would have told him that he could do it himself and that it was something he needed to learn in order to have good hygiene. You did tell him that he needed to take care of wiping up after using the bathroom and he decided not to do it. His mother has no right to be mad. She is shirking her responsibility and blaming other people for her own shortcomings. I feel sorry for the boy because he is being taught that he is incapable of being independent. His Mom is enabling him. What a shame.

When I first read your title I thought you meant potty trained as in diapers.... but I do agree with you 100% that he should know how to wipe when he is done using the bathroom. If not people need to be aware of this. Maybe his parents need to bring him to the doctors to be seen about his inability of wiping? Something has to be done here!! What happens when he goes to school, the teachers def. don't wipe for him!!

yes i agree he should be doing the dirty deed his self if he was like 3 then i would understand but this kid is school age does he attend school if so who does it for him there. He is seven years old there is no reason why he can not wipe his own butt thats only 3years from being 10.I think that if his mother is still wipeing his butt there is something wrong with her that is nasty.

Yes he should have been way pass potty training. I don't blame you I am not about to wipe for him. If the mother is furious about that - I wonder what else she's doing for him that he could and should be doing for hisself at that age.

He'll probably be the type to grow up later in life to have his mommy washing his undies at 43!!!!

yes, should be potty trained but, maybe the kid has problems that you are not aware of I definetly you should talk to the parent about this . Now a days you have to be very careful and I personaly would not want another adult wiping my childs private parts.
