My dog is known for not really getting along w/ other dogs. On walks she goes crazy lunging and such. We've been talking to our groomer about it but whenever she's at the groomers she's fine. there are tons of dogs there. When we picked her up from there today she said that Nani(my maltese) was out in the back playing w/ 2 havaneese and having a blast! Why is she so diffenent at the groomer's than she is with us.
Is it something were doing wrong? What can I do to help fix this problem? I'm looking into obedience classes.

Obedience class is a good idea.

One difference is that when she's with you she is on leash. That affects behavior. Some dogs are more insecure when they are hampered by a leash. Some dogs are more aggressive, knowing they don't have to back up their threats.

Also, she is with you. She may be jealously guarding you so that she doesn't have to share you with other dogs. Or she may be lacking confidence in your leadership. Or she may be picking up on your apprehension about her being near other dogs. Or she may actually be trying to play, but you are mistaking it for aggression.

There are LOTS of reasons why this could be happening. A good instructor should be able to help you figure it out.

The difference is YOU!! Probably the groomer takes no crap from the dog and at home the dog think and knows it can get away with certain things.
Obedience class might be a great idea!!!

Dogs are always different at the groomers, we have so many pet parents that come into our salon and say omg my dog is horrible she may try to bite, and so on.. The moment the owner leaves there dogs are always awesome. For one i think it is because dogs no what they can get away with at home and with there owners, they no the control they have over you... When you take them out of there enviorment and put them with total strangers they have no idea what is going on and what is gonna happen, or what they can get away with. So they then behave, alot of times owners will stick around for a few and watch there dogs out on the table, us clipping there nails and so on. They always tell us wow that wasn't my dog.. lol.. Plus as groomers we cant let them jump around and such, with all we have to do to them, so i always go into it with the thought of "I'm gonna get this done" never wow this dog is bad, they can sense more then we give them credit for.. And we cannot sedate animals, nor do any owners bring in sedated so that makes them even more in "wow" I think its more or less the dog sensing whom is in control..

the problem is not your dog, it is you. you have allowed the behavior to go on and she thinks it is accceptable around you. your groomer is the leader of the pack at her place and is in control of the dogs behavior. try watching "THE DOG WHISPERER" with Ceasar Milan. He addresses this problem frequently and you can learn a lot from the show

I think it's knowing who they can get by with things with. My dog is TERRIBLE for me when I try to bathe him. Throws his head back and howls like he is dying and you have to fight with him to keep him in the tub. My groomer says he is an angel with her. He knows he can get by with stuff with "mommie" that the groomer won't tolerate. Needless to say, I pay to get him bathed rather than have to fight with him.
