There have been a few conferences lately with top scientists gathering.
Two major one's in the USA
As is becoming more and more the habit, there were the official presentations at the public conference
but also many of the participants checking into their rooms got messages informing them of the time and place of the "side event" which more and more is becoming to be called "Our Talk". A simple little name for a practice that is new in our age of Quantum physics and other explorations into new knowledges.
Scientists do prepare what they "present" for Peer Review
but they have much ponder that they are unprepared to present publicly.
But the growing phenomena is that they share.
and usually God and Religion understandings are the star topic
Edgar Cayce is a spiritualist that lived from 1877 to 1945 and what he presented gave many meanings for passages in the bible that differ from what most priests preach
The scientists are discovering things that give them pause to wonder if the ancient writings really were talking about the stuff they are discovering. They are looking at ancient writings a wee bit differently also than what is normally preached.
The "Our Talks" gatherings now are growing to where specific scientists and other leading minds of our age are doing 'Public' versions of the 'Our Talks" format.
Here on Yahoo!Answers there is a lot of division and argument as well as a lot of just plain fun
But mostly it is just recycling what has already been over recycled without much thought
If you ever get to attend one of these conferences or get lucky enough to be allowed into one of the smaller "Our Talks" prepare to have your mind blown!
What religion can be and what science is becoming are not so incompatible as many of the words thrown around in this site would indicate.

In a class called 'Problems of Democracy' it was almost totally about the different religions of the world. It took me nearly the whole school year to 'get it' but I got an A on my term paper and another for English (double A) Science is man's derivation of the world, it's surroundings, illness, time, without God. And God is everywhere and accepts man's science as it pertains to helping his living creatures. Perhaps you should hang your hat on good vs evil rather than religions. Too many wars have been fought due to them including the one we are in. I am a spiritualist-loving everyone feels really great until someone plants a knife in your back. So believe but confirm. In my case, God went with me to chemo, but, a scientist gave his life to find cures for illnesses, I think God approves very much.

this question is way too flawed to answer...despite the ignorant opinions of most people today, religion and science do not contradict at all
for example, the big bang theory does not contradict religion because God could have caused the big bang, thusly creating the universe; also the process of evolution could have been brought about by God (which is what I, and all the priests i know believe)
also, many great scientists have also been devout Catholics such as Nicholas Copernicus, and Johannes Kepler. even Pope John Paul II practiced science throughout his life as he wrote a great medical book before becoming pope
see, science doesnt contradict religion at all...its just an excuse for people who are afraid of getting close to God

Science as in The Old Testement God was said to encourage the destruction of cities and those who did not beleive in God as well as allow soldiers fighting in the service of God to commit war crimes . This could be said to be true for other Gods but none were quite as vindictive. A God who does not give room for other people to worship as they please is not one that can be accepted. To place any unelected supreme being whichever one in charge of people without any say so does not seem right. People may point out supreme beings do not have to answer to people well there is the saying ''pride goeth before a fall'' and if a god is not flexible enough that god will lose to one more flexible. Something else could happen God and others could be convicted of war crimes or supporting them even though imaginary the killing was said to be their will so they are could be considered guilty and rejected .

I like both.
Edit:
Alex, where have you been the last 100 years? Science is the debate highway of the world, it varies a lot between scientists, while normal people just get a little bit from everything and have their own ideas. Most people who believe in evolution, don't even know what it means.
Edit 2:
Well Desiree, I like to keep myself at room temperature. Not too cold, not too hot.

I think you need a combination of religion or faith and science together because faith and reason are part of the human experience and they complement each other quite well. As for religion, it is the way we communicate to God not that God needs religion because he is above religion. But God also loves us for who we are and thus religion is one way to express our love for God if properly done. As for the arts and sciences God desires us to use these things to unlock the secrets and master the world properly as in good stewardship but not to the point of worshipping nature or creation but to worship the Creator.

I'm really into religion, because I am a Christian. But I also love Science, it's really interesting and weird(lol). So, they both make sense to me.It's just so fascinating to see what other people think.

What if science is the rules that the powers that be have setup in order to effect the changes needed to create the universe?
Did you know that in certain science experiments especally dealing with sub atomic particles if a human being is in the room the experiment s will have random results. Know what else they don't know why.

It's one or the other, my friend. With science there is logic and reason but with no emotion. With religion, there is warm, fuzzy feelings but there's no room for logic and reason. Science paints a picture of a cold, dispassionate universe but a universe that is grounded on universally constant principles. Religion paints a picture of contradictory beliefs, blatant illogicality and superstitious nonsense.
