Aren't they kinda redefining God's definition of marriage, and defining it for themselves, by doing that?

Yes, they are and I don't like it. Let's use the old definition of marriage and let gay people marry again.

nope. Vows do not define a marriage. I do not have to vow to be a man and my wife does not have to vow a woman. The definition of marriage, from time immemorial , has always been between a man and a woman. At no time in history has a man married a man. Never. Homosexuality has been practiced for all of history. Marriage has historically been a RELIGIOUS practice. Frankly, Government should stay out of it all together.

The vows are one thing and the definition of marriage quite another. Where have you been?

Many people write their own vows because they want to say, in their own words, how much they love their partner-to-be. That is why I wrote my vows. It is because I have a special love for my husband and personal feelings I wanted expressed.

My husband and I each wrote our own vows for our wedding and it was the most special part of the day! The traditional marriage vows are not in the Bible and I think it is alright to modify them or write your own. I looked at several tradional vows and tooks parts out of each of them that I liked and then added some of my own promises in, like to love and support my husband, never take our marriage for granted, etc... Good luck!

Why do Christians get divorced at the same rate as non-Christians? Christians get married in front of God and their Christian friends, all of whom are praying to God for the marriage to succeed. And then they say, "What God has put together, let no man put asunder." God is all-powerful, so if God has put two people together that should seal the deal, right? Yet Christians get divorced at the same rate as everyone else. To explain this, you have to create some convoluted rationalization

It's not just marriage vows, the Bible itself changes to suit

Hi, No it is not redifining God's definition of marriage. Vows are what you make to each other, these are promises to your spouse in your marriage of how you will love, respect, and protect each other. God's definition of marriage is one man and one woman. Below is a link to some pages that might help.

Hope this helps,

That's stupid.
Wedding vows are NOT a marriage any more than my car keys are my car.

My Christian vow will be, "Oh dearest, I know our bond will last forever. How much I love you and your two X chromosomes. May your X-X chromosomes and my X-Y chromosomes, go through sickness and health, wealth and poverty, mutations but never macro-evolution, divorces and maybe a few more marriages, drive-throughs and drive-bys. Forever and ever."
