The only planner you should hire is one that you feel comfortable dealing with, personally and professionally. You should feel comfortable they will represent you and your best interest. A contract stating exactly what is expected and what the fees are should be signed by mutual parties. This is your wedding and the planner is there to make you forget about your troubles, give you the ability to make informed and educated decisions and above all, create the wedding of your dreams - in your style, on your budget. If you feel anything different, look for someone else.

No. Of course, I didn't hire any wedding planner, but if I were going to, I'd make darn sure I got some good independant references.
One of the scariest things about planning a wedding is the fact that most people holding one have never held one before and don't have a solid frame of reference to judge professionals by.
Do your research, and don't sign on the dotted line until you feel comfortable with each professional.

No, of course not! This is exactly the reason I do my business the way I do. When brides have contracts with me, it is only with me for my planning and coordinating services. All other contracts are between the couple and the vendors.
Any of you out there looking at planners should hire ones that do business like this! Then you still have control over which vendors you go with and will know what their services and prices will be!

Only a crazy person would still hire these people!! They will make you more stressed out than a couple should be on their big day!! They should not have to worry about everything being paid if the wedding planner said she would pay for it out of the money she/he had been given already by the couple!! I would have cried and cried if this had happened to me!!!

Of course you shouldn't hire her...duh. Look for a wedding planner that won't stress you out...because stress is what's killing me with my wedding...my girl sucks butt! Btw, most venues will supply you with a wedding coordinator (basically same thing as a wed planner) & they are usually very helpful!

I agree you should only hire who you feel comfortable with AND who has a good reputation. So always check references. In this case it seems the references have spoken, why take a chance on having your day spoiled.
Good luck!
