"The U.S Treaty with Tripoli 1796" this document was signed by many of the founding fathers including John Adams & George Washington our first President.

Article 11 :. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Jefferson had his dealings with the Muslims, that is with the Barbary Pirates, the Muslim corsairs who preyed on American ships with Christian and non-Christian seamen. He negotatied with them. His own view of their behavior is on record. There is a letter that was reported to have said he had much the same skeptical view of Islam as he did that of Christianity. Jefferson was Deist. I imagine you can "Google" for it. Unlike John Quincy Adams, (Google "John Quincy Adams" and "Islam"), who denounced Islam as a belief-system, Jefferson merely denounced the behavior of all the Muslims he had any dealings with -- but in the end it amounted to the same thing.

Are you kidding?

On Jefferson's inauguration as president in 1801, Yussif Karamanli, the Pasha (or Bashaw) of Tripoli demanded $225,000 from the new administration. (In 1800, Federal revenues totaled a little over $10 million.) Putting his long-held beliefs into practice, Jefferson refused the demand. Consequently, in May of 1801, the Pasha declared war on the United States, not through any formal written documents, but by cutting down the flagstaff in front of the U.S. Consulate. Morocco, Algiers, and Tunis soon followed their ally in Tripoli.

In response, Jefferson sent a group of frigates to defend American interests in the Mediterranean, and informed Congress. Although Congress never voted on a formal declaration of war, they did authorize the President to instruct the commanders of armed vessels of the United States to seize all vessels and goods of the Pasha of Tripoli "and also to cause to be done all such other acts of precaution or hostility as the state of war will justify."

He wasn't too impressed with the enslavement of US sailors apparently. This was a sort of pre-historic war on terror.

Why in the holy hell would anyone, ever be "impressed" with Sharia law? I could only see that if the person came from a much worse set of laws.

"Wow, this getting smashed in the face with a bat business is WAY better than all that being stabbed crap that I used to be involved in"

Absolutely not. That treaty was signed to get Muslims to stop atacking American merchant ships that were sailing through the middle east at the time. He was willing to tell the Muslims anything to make them happy and get them to stop murdering people and pirating on the open seas.
