One of the best ways to learn about being a professional photographer is by working with one. Call some of the local pros and offer to work for them as an assistant (aka gofer). Tell them why you want to do this.

Man has two ears and two eyes and one mouth. Man should listen and watch twice as much as man talks. So don't ask questions (unless you need more explanation about what you're supposed to do) while your mentor is working. Watch and listen and learn.
