Just get highlights in a lighter blond, and in 6 weeks, get highlights in a medium blond, and in 6 weeks get highlights in another shade. Get 3 different shades and just rotate. I've got a friend who never actually dyes her hair, just keeps rotating highlights.

Brunette for sure. I had and currently have dirty blonde hair (it's my natural color just like you). I died it a lighter color and I regreted it so much. My hair turned a fake looking cheap ugly blonde and I just couldn't get it out no matter how hard I tried. I would go darker each time with the blonde die and it still would go back to that ugly color after a few shampoos. I had had enough and said well, i'm going brunette. I did, by using a medium ash brown and my hair faded back to its natural color of dirty dark blonde. I am lucky my hairs not fried from all the die I used it it. So take my advice and go brunette. My other advice would be to go to a hair dresser because boxed dies never work. They do at first but they wash out after a few shampoo's. I must have spent around 100 dollars on box dies and i'm currently back where I started with my darker dirty blonde hair.

Good Luck!

I would say a golden brown, because we are going into fall/winter season. Everyone's hair darkens in the winter season, so there is less chance of having to dye it as often.
What you could do is do a Low Lights. And just darken parts of your hair.. That would refresh your color and make it look like you had it highlighted!
Ask your favorite hairstylist what she/he thinks or just go for it.
Have fun.. That is what coloring is all about!
Oh and remember Golden browns the highlights are gold. Strawberry or auburn are reds, and lastly Ash is green.. I do not recommend Ash to anyone with dirty blonde hair, as it will turn to a hideous swamp water green instead..

If your hair is dark, brown will last longer in between touch-ups. If it's light then blonde will last longer in between touch-ups. You say yours is dirty blonde, so blonde would be your best bet.

It doesn't depend on the color. It depends on the brand of hair color.
