If you're talking about the trunk, it appears to be a ceramic-type sculpture. It doesn't appear to be a "normal" object. (I'm sure you already knew that, though!)
I do love it.
Just for kicks, I emailed customer service at Pottery Barn and asked about the item. Here is their reply:
"Many of our products are photographed in actual homes. The item may have been a photographer's prop used for the photo shoot or may have been an actual item the homeowners had in their home.
This item is not currently offered for sale through Pottery Barn, and we have not been provided with any information as to where it was obtained. However, we have forwarded your suggestion to our corporate buyers for review and possible inclusion in future marketing plans.
If we may be of any further assistance, please contact us via email. Alternately, you may contact our Customer Service Department directly at 1-800-922-9934 from 4:00 am to 9:00 pm (PST), seven days a week.
Kind regards,
J. Watson

If you called the catalog, they probably wouldn't know, since it's only a designer's prop. It's a found object from a flea market or antique store or something, likely...but what? I don't know...looks sort of nautical...like a very large bobber or something...but it's wood.
Sorry. Hope you figure it out! It does look interesting!
