The first thing would probably be to show how well you are doing under the king.

In 1776, the 13 colonies had the highest per capita income in the world. They were producing one seventh of the world's iron. George Washington was making 250,000 per year. The average farmer was selling almost half of thier crop as profit.

The port of Philidelphia shipped 57,000 tons of grain to Europe and did over 40 million dollars (that's 800 million today) in exports.

The 13 colonies not only had the fastest growing economy, they also paid the least amount of taxes in the British Empire. and along with upper and lower canada, had the least amount of interference from the British parliment. The king had no power so I'd question the patriots complaining about the actions of a figurehead as well.

So, I'd start with how good we have it.

You're trying to look the issue in black and white. It doesn't work like that.
You assume that somehow one side was right and the other was wrong.
The patriots wanted to keep their hard earned money and fought for it. The loyalist were happy living under a king, willing to pay tribute to him and fought for it. The patriots won, end of story.

I'm totally for the patriots, by the way, but the loyalists had a clear understanding of what they were doing and totally sure that they were doing the right thing. That's how you defend your position, always.

I'm sure that the patriots point of view is valid even today. That makes the socialists (democrats and republicans) a bunch of traitors. I understand that they think otherwise and they defend their position by explaining clearly how their system is better. I laugh at their ridiculous explanation, of course, and think about the many years of total failure.

By the way, the patriots went to a war against a tyrant king over a 5% tax. The government is taking between 60 to 70% from your paycheck today...

Since about 75% of the colonists were loyalists, most of the discontent was ideological. With an idiot king, along with idiot local commanders, the British ended up being their own worst advertisement. Trying to squash the ideological talk, they ended up punishing loyalists, too, which only added to the discontent. By the time the war started. talk was done and it didn't really matter after that.

It's also the reason why smart companies don't trash talk about their competitors. It's not about good manners, but more that trash talk by a company can become it's OWN worst advertisement.

In many cases you would have moved to English Canada. There still is an organization there known as the United Empire Loyalists who are descendants of those who left the colonies just before or during the American War for Independence.

you could defend the point that as a loyalist you may have the protection of the crown.
In addition, the loyalists outnumbered the patriots. Believe it or not, not many were patriots.
Life as you (loyalist) knew it, nothing would change.

i'd have been a loyalist through fact the yank colonies have been taken care of lots greater ideal by ability of Britain than something and easily had to pay greater taxes to pay for a conflict that grew to become into to defensd the Colonies (The French and Indian conflict) yet for the sake of your question you will % to be a patriot through fact it would enable you to be your own sovereign united states of america and likewise through fact it would finally have a say in how government ought to be run.

Wear a bright crimson coat and stand out in the clearing so the boys in blue will be able to see what they are aiming at much better.

I guess you would defend your right to be just like the liberal minded, empty-headed democrats of today. You wouldn't want to defend your country against tyranny, and you would think that the large federal British government had the right to take away your freedoms, just like the Democrat party wants to do.
