Absolutely...
Computer programmers try to make their programs idiot proof. But many soon find out that you can't out think an idiot .

Not necessarily. The expression usually involves Rocket Science and people who work for NASA and actually are rocket scientists get my vote, along with some doctors. But yes, to answer your question, a regular person can certainly be smarter than a computer programmer.

Computer programmers ARE regular persons. I have heard is said that "eduction wont make you smarter". This is a sentiment that I do not agree with. Most of the people I heard it from were resentful of educated and successful people.

No, not smarter, but hard working. There is a LOT of education involved.

I might add the the education does not have to be formal, but it helps. Cracking a book, and listening to those that have been there work also.

Computer programmers are just regular people, they're not some sort of cyborg. But being a programmer isn't easy and involves a lot of math. So yes they usually are smart people. I wouldn't say they're all geniuses though.

There are all different kinds of 'smart'.

Programming requires an analytical talent, a certain way of looking at things, breaking problems down into smaller problems, working with abstractions and seeing them in great detail. Is this 'smarter' than, say, a concert pianist? A great chef? A superbowl-winning football coach? Who is to say?

"Smart" can have many definitions. One of its basic definitions is "resourcefulness."

A computer programmer could be brilliant in their field, but not have any knowledge, or smarts, in any other field.
