Have you ever eaten yogurt? That's very similar to 'sour cream' and is made from basically the same cultures ... but 'sour cream' is CREAMIER than yogurt (which is made from milk, usually skim milk, and not cream). Most ranch dressings are made with either sour cream or mayo or both, so that is 'close' too, but there are 'spices' added to the ranch dressings that you 'can't taste' in plain sour cream. It is NOT 'really sour' but it does have a 'tang' to it ... try it on a baked potato first ... add some butter and some salt and pepper ... and you'll become a 'sour cream lover' for LIFE.

Mayo (Mayonaise) is a little more tart in taste than sour cream.
It's great on potato wedges. I use it when making scones....yes really. SR flour, sugar, sour cream mixed together and add milk..magic! and great scone.
Mix sour cream with corn relish to make a great dip for crackers.
Be adventurous and give sour cream a go.

It tastes like a yogurt, but just with a more sour taste, with less sugar.

Hello:
If you have ever had french onion potato chip dip,it is just like that but without all of the seasonings in it. I happen to LOVE sour cream on my baked potatoes and tacos,yummy! ;-)
