No He is wrong, there is no way that stress can lead to gland enlargement. The commonest, but not the only cause, is infection. If the glands have been up for more than 3-4 weeks investigation is mandatory.
This would involve routine blood screening and possibly also a chest X-Ray.

Yes it can. In fact, sickness and immunity decline have a lot to do with stress. But as for swollen glands, it could be possible that your stress has caused you to lose sleep, not eat properly, and thusfar inhibit your daily health. This reduces your body's natural immune system and leaves you prone to sickness---which swollen glands are a symptom of. Though I must comment on the fact that when I stressed out to the max, and was not sleeping---due to extreme fatigue, I got mono-nucleosis...which started with swollen glands in the side of my neck. See your doctor.

I've never heard of stress causing swollen glands. I have heard that stress causes other problems though. I just went to my GP because one side of my neck and jaw is swollen and he said he wasn't even concerned about it. So I am looking for another doctor. As for stress related, I will have to research that.

does your throat feel tight, like a lump in your throat? then that could be caused by stress but if its just a swollen gland then i would ask your doctor to do a full blood test to rule out a thyroid problem

Yes it's possible I had a stress related lump in my throat and it took some while and a few tests before I was convinced that it was all in the mind - which it was.
My shrink once said to me that if I wanted to grow a tree out of the top of my head and I was stressed enough it should be do-able.

Stress can cause very serious problems in all body functions. Try to relax and remember your doctor recognises what causes problems much beter than you do.
Join a gym or take some form of exercise, exercise usually helps reduce stress.

It certainly can be, however I would get it checked out as it could be attributed to a great many things and as we are not medically trained to offer such advice so you ought to seek a second opinion.
Your entitled to do this but you need to be referred by your own GP in the first instance. He or she won't mind so don't fret over that side of things.
All the best and cheers to you too!
