My fiance and I are both musicians - cello & piano. At the moment, we are planning to create CDs of the two of us playing duets and solos of different types of music - classical (of course), soundtracks, music for older generations, original compositions that one or both of us wrote, and some new stuff (like our own arrangement of "The Scientist" by Coldplay). What do you think? We wanted to make something more personal and meaningful than a random mix CD with some of our favorite songs.

noelbutterfly...it doesn't have to be tacky if you can provide high-quality music...or high-quality singing. Plus, a CD of the bride and groom singing all of the tracks WOULD probably be tacky. I should add that both of us can sing...but that's why we're choosing to do something instrumental.

Well, since you asked...I've heard more people sound tacky singing on a recording than instrumentalists. With singers, you often have more variables to worry about: timbre, enunciation, blending of vowels, etc. Instrumental music can be far less "distracting". Also, it goes back to the core of the notion that (instrumental) music can be a powerful form of expression when words are not able to fully illustrate a feeling or an emotion.

Wow, noelbutterfly, I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that I was getting pissy - because I was just answering the question you asked me. Isn't Yahoo! Answers about generating some discussion back and forth? If I was angry, my response would have been in all capital letters. You were quick to jump on the defensive, though, and you might be the one who needs to "chill". Thank you for illustrating my point, though: words can be very limited. Perhaps if I had pleasant music play while you read my response, you would have understood the inflection better. :)

I think this is a great idea and an expression of yourselves. Wedding favours can get a bit stupid. A lot of the time they are either a waste of time and effort and money, because people leave them behind, or just dont want them.
Some people spend a fortune on wedding favours, giving pens and stuff, wineglasses and so forth.
your idea is lovely. I would think everyone will be happy to take home the Cd. I think you could cut your cost down by making it one per couple, and maybe chocolates for the second partner, people probably wont want two copies.
Very meaningful idea, original and personal.
Go for it.

While I normally tell brides to forgo the mix CD's and do something that's consumable instead, those are just impersonal songs that the bride and groom like--it's their playlist off of iTunes. However, where the CD is YOUR music--that's a little different story--that is something I would treasure for the rest of my life. I think it's an absolutely great idea. And the best thing is...if either of you ever make it as a big time recording artist (hey, it happened to Yo Yo Ma!), then they can always say they knew you when!! Congrats on your upcoming wedding, and may you always be blessed with music in your lives!

Classical Instrumental music has both blessings and curses.
It has a tendency to blend into the background. If this is your objective, to be unobtrusive, then perfect. If you want to make it a forefront piece or pieces, then I would add more instruments..
If you listen to BOND live from London, you will see what I mean.
Even though they are far from mainstream, they make their presence known with the instruments, not the piece.
Personally I think a mix of both would be wonderful.
I would love to have that as a keepsake from any of the weddings I have done.
Of course being a lover of the classics, I am a little biased.

Hi and congratulations!
I am not a fan of favors as I have stated in my other posts....but your idea SOUNDS GREAT! This is one favor that I would like to receive and I would actually use! I love the idea of it being instrumental only ~ very elegant.
I also agree with the other person who gave you the idea to create your own personalized label. Again, your idea sounds both beautiful and elegant. Good luck!

What a beautiful idea! Wedding favors are about the bride and groom. Sounds perfect. Maybe the label can have a picture of the two of you in the background.
Congrats!

Nice idea. Way better than the cheesy champagne glass filled with Hersey Kisses that I got at a wedding this summer.

Go for it! The cd will be a fabulous personal touch to your wedding. You can even create a great personalized label & cd cover to match your wedding colors and logo (if you have one).

I think that's a lovely idea. I normally think favors in general are a total waste of money, but since it would be so personal, I think your guests would really appreciate it!
