Ok, my question is this...
Why do so many Atheists hang out in the Religion/Spirtuality section? I, myself, am a Christian, but I do not try to judge other people for their beliefs whatsoever and respect others for the choices that they have made in life. What I find while I visit this section is people asking questions about God and some Atheists attacking them for thinking that there is one. I honestly am trying to understand here and not undermine anyone. Why, if you do not believe in a higher being, what makes you come to this section?

I am aware that this isn't the Christian section...but having a religion involves following a teaching of a higher being. It is my understanding that Atheism is not a religion but more "anti-religion" if that makes any sense.

I do apologize if this is in fact the 7th time this question has been asked today. I did actually try to search for it...I found something from six months ago that didn't really give me the answer I was lookin for. So far, Zero has given me the best explanation. That's all I was looking for.

I realize that I misspelled Atheist the first time, typos do happen. Thanks to those who thought it more important to dwell on that than actually answer the question.

A sincere thanks to those who actually did answer the question. I understand now why a person who is Atheist may come here. I've found that a lot of it has to do with learning from one another and I think that is great. I also understand that some questions that Christians post seem to be berating Atheists and they come across with a Holier than Thou attitude. This was not what I was trying to do here and I am sorry if anyone has ever had to have someone treat them in that way. Thanks to all who have answered...I hope to learn more from everyone. I'm glad everyone's thirst has now been quenched. : )

This is one of the few places where I can talk about my religious beliefs without making everyone feel uncomfortable or disliking me because of my beliefs.

It's also a place to meet thoughtful and intelligent people of all religions and learn about religions like Islam, Christianity and Hinduism.

Personally (i'm agnostic) I come for 3 reasons.
Firstly, because being an ex athiest and ex christian if there is a question about either, I am usually able to answer it properly, thus furthering the intelegence of a fellow human being.
Secondly, so I can learn more about the subject
And thirdly because some things people say here are just downright funny.

And also (not trying to be condescending) but there are christians who attack athiests for not believing in God. It works both ways to be honest, wether someones nice or nasty depends more on the person rather than the belief

Do you know that you can search previous questions?

I do not mean to be rude but this question is asked everyday. Like the first answer stated, it is not the Christianity section. It is for spirituality as well. You do not need religion to be spiritual plus what would you learn if you only talked to people who believe the exact same thing as you? Nothing.
If you pay closer attention to some questions you will see that most atheists offer fact based answers. Many times I have defended Catholicism of Mormonism because I know the facts. I do not answer based on my personal devotion to a set of beliefs.

Even though it is called the religion and spirituality section no where does it imply that you have to be religious. We are all just obviously interested in the subject of religion.

*DRINK!*

My dear, if you had even looked briefly around in this section you would have realized that at least 5 people ask this very question every single day.

It's not called the "religious peoples, and spiritualists" section... it's called "religion & spirituality" as in the subject and we, as atheists, do have a thing or 2 to say about the subject. Some of us are even quite interested in the subject of religion...

So, if you would stop, take a deep breath, and think (i know it's hard) you might get it. Or you could open your bible and pray about it... isn't god supposed to give you the answer if you do that?

yeah ur gonna get a lot of *drink* answers
Y? cuz a lot of ppl ask these same questions!

No matter what u say they will always say the same thing, plus it really is a two way street. Christians ask atheist y dont they believe in God and atheist ask y do they!
(sigh)
Oh and i actually read on another similar question that a person (atheist) is spiritual but doesnt believe in God, so if thats her answer then it might be somebody else too, therefor she is in the right place cuz it the section is Religion&Spirituality.

Wow...are you all going to answer the question or not? Even if this is the 150th time it's been answered, it is legit, is it not Atheists? Do you all take hits at the Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Taoism, etc., questions? I see a lot of the *drink* in your answers, is there significance? A real question to you all, that intrigued me to see your perspective answers, but the results are more jeers, rhetoric questions, and down right meanness. The few Atheists I've met were able to state their opinions without being ignorant, can any of you all?

Just for asking this question you are going to get so much slack, and called names, and told that its a free country. The reason they are here in my oppinion is to stir up trouble, or to "promote" the fact that they are better than christians because they think on their own not from a book. I have been attacked many times for believing in God, from ignorant, to idiot, I have been called it all. They come here to answer questions though, they know alot about the bible, they just believe it to be false.

This question has been posted thousands of times.

There are many believers here who are obsessed with lying about atheists. Someone has to counter the lies, or innocent people might be fooled.

Many of the "questions about God" here are actually thinly-veiled insults on non-believers. Many of the "attacks" you speak of are just pointing out dishonesty, hatefulness, and willful ignorance.

Just because they do not believe in a higher power, does not mean they do not like to learn about the other religions. and when they ask the questions, they get attacked too, so it is a two way street.

Atheism is the rejection of religion. That means it is ABOUT religion. So this is the place to talk about it. And this question gets asked like 50 times a day. Are you guys really that insecure that you can't take criticism?
