What would a pig do with pearls? It means you cannot share the knowledge of God and wisdom and such to a person who is not willing to hear it. It is a waste of time and effort. They are unwilling to change so what you have to say will have no use to them.

A pig is a worthless animal to a follower of the Law, so giving it valuable pearls is indeed vanity, just as giving a dog something holy is pointless. Pigs and dogs do not ask for pearls or holy things; they ask only for food, in their own ways. The verses following this passage also give some insight: "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it will be open to you..." So, do not go throwing the Gospel at people who do not ask about it or who will not benefit from it. But if a human asks about God or the Gospel, share it with them! Every human needs the Gospel and can benefit from it, so when they ask for it, do not withhold.

There have been times when unbelievers asked me about the Bible, and sometimes they have done so to try to trip me up. In all cases, when asked, I share the news about Jesus and my relationship with Him. Many times, I'll hear, "Oh, I guess I've never heard it that way before." The soil may not be ready, but when the land asks about the seed, plant it.

Dear lover of Bible truth,

In Matthew 7:6 Jesus is teaching us that when sharing the gospel we have to be discernful about people's attitudes towards the gospel.

Yes quite often as we share we will find ourselves facing resistance-- and this does not mean that we should not share. But there are those with whom sharing the gospel insites anger, slander and ridicule- and Jesus is basically saying that it is not the time or the place.

Jesus does not want the gospel to be ridiculed. The gospel is precious like a "pearl" and if you gave a pearl to a "pig" he wouldn't know what to do with it- he'd trample it in the mud.

It's a hard line to discern and i've often struggled with the practical application of this verse. i think there are times to agree to disagree. I've shared the gospel at times and people have gotten to a point where they start mocking Jesus or even are ready to get violent- and Jesus is saying that nothing we can say can change this person's heart. That's the time to end the conversation and pray- i've also experienced where someone who was angry and opposed to the gospel- Jesus changed their heart over time. Look at Paul who would have killed you had you shared Christ with him when he was Saul- but Jesus met him on the Damascus road and he was then open to receive the gospel.

Hope that helps. Keep sharing God's love!

That's an awesome name: lover of Bible Truth!

God Bless. Kindly,

Nickster

In a figurative sense, the “pearls” refer to precious Scriptural truths regarding God’s Messianic kingdom. Disciples of Jesus are to share these truths with everyone. But if individuals show themselves to be without appreciation of spiritual things, like swine, Christians are to seek out more receptive ears.

Being too intense of others, magnifying their faults and determining on on them, is a intense offense. So Jesus asks: “how are you waiting to declare on your brother, ‘enable me to extract the straw out of your eye’; jointly as, look! a rafter is on your own eye? Hypocrite! First extract the rafter out of your own eye, after which you will see of direction the thank you to extract the straw out of your brother’s eye.” this would not mean that Jesus’ disciples are to prepare no discernment in reference to human beings, for he says: “do no longer grant what's holy to dogs, neither throw your pearls interior the previous swine.” The truths from God’s be wakeful are holy. they are like figurative pearls. yet jointly as some persons, who're like dogs or swine, coach no appreciation for those functional truths, Jesus’ disciples would desire to desire to pass away those human beings and seek for for out people who're greater advantageous receptive. Pearls are of great value, but they are absolutuly worthless to a pig...so sharing a valuable item (the Gospel) with one only looking to argue is a waste of time. Paul also spoke of vain converstaions (same concept).

Don't waste your time and people who don't appreciate what you are saying or doing...like tossing a pearl (great value) to a pig...all they want to do is fill their gut with food and have no appreciation for the value you could be offering....Like asking certain questions on R&S ...LOL I crack myself up
