I didn't have a comparative religion class until I was a sophomore in high school, but they did teach about polytheistic religions, from Hinduism to pre-Christian Paganism.

Dear ladyian243,
First let me say that public schools do not teach about any religions-- unless it's a religion course. Certain religions may be named in terms of history- but i can assure you that Chrisitanity is not being taught in school (if anything everything from prayer to even the mention of God in the pledge of the allegiance is being kicked out).
They do teach about some polytheistic religions in mythology and Greek, Roman culture, etc.
But to my knowledge public schools do not focus on any religions unless it's a religion course- like a comparative religon course- and i would say some of the religions they leave out- they probably just don't have time for- there are so many religions out there. i would perhaps bring this concern to the principal or even higher up- the people who make those decisions- but i think you are misinformed if you think public schools are teaching religion- the trend seems to be that religion is being pushed out more and more.
Kindly,
Nickster

Because the Christians are the majority and they will (Unfortunately) out vote any pagan in the PTA and School Board meetings. But, I would rather teach my child myself then have someone that is against any religion but their own teaching him about the gods that i worship.
Blessed Be

I think that most people do not realize that the polytheistic religions other than Hinduism still exist and have followers.
The only thing I can recommend is to ASK the SCHOOL BOARD in an open meeting why they are ignoring these religions.

Reading the posts here I realize what a sad, sad day when God was taken out of the schools. It is frightening to read so many posts from people who say VERY OFFENSIVE comments about people of faith. You are not speaking against any other religions except Christianity. STOP ATTACKING the CHRISTIAN FAITH. You know it is a faith of peace, that is why you are so brave to attack. Because you know that Christians will not retaliate. It is easy to bully them. SHAME on YOU all!

the only religion i was taught in school was greek mythology, and that was part of social studies...
i would rather teach my children at home if they can't cover all religions accurately.
i would like to see a world religions and cultures class...

I don't know, but I don't remember being taught any religion. Maybe I went to a crappy school. lol
We did learn about greek mythology though. Maybe you should bring it up to the teacher.

It's just the way things are. I don't WANT them teaching my kids about the gods. Have you read modern interpretation of our lore?? Ugh they are SO far off. No thanks. Leave that to me so they learn the truth.
