I have this large bump on the side of my face, it's about the size of a golf ball. It's recently turned red, and it's been growing pretty rapidly lately. It definitely hurts, chewing and turning my neck to a certain degree usually make it hurt. Naturally it just feels weird and hurts a bit, but depending on how distracted I am, I can forget about the pain at times. It's been growing for about 3 weeks now, and in the beginning it was realllly tiny.

Anyway, I went to urgent care, and the doctor told me it was an ingrown hair and to take some antibiotics for 2 days, and then go to the ER if it doesn't get better. I don't really feel that it's an emergency, some people have serious problems, so why should I take precedence over someone who actually needs the help right that minute. So, I'm asking you folks online exactly what you think. Everyone I've talked to has said it's not an ingrown hair, and that I should go to the doctor, but I trust internet people.

Well if it's taken 3 weeks to grow, waiting till tomorrow shouldn't be a problem. But you should get a medical opinion then. If you can't get to your regular doctor, then do what urgent care said and go to the ER.

It could be an ingrown hair that has got infected and turned into an abcess....messy but easy to treat. But needs looking at...abcesses can turn really nasty if left.

It could be several other things too, but if urgent care said an ingrown hair initially, then start with that idea!

I've never heard of an ingrown hair swelling to the size of a golf ball.

I say go to the ER. Or go to the urgent care and see if they think you should go to the ER. If there are people there with more serious problems than you, the doctors will look at them first. People who need help right that minute will get it even if you're there with a minor problem.

it's possible that it's an ingrown hair, but it certainly sounds way too large for an ingrown hair. It may be a gouiter. I say that because of the size And the rapid rate of growth. I say see a medical doctor where you can get more personalized treatment then you're going to get in the rapid emergency room. An internist would be the best doctor to see for this. Go as soon as possible.

The query must be : Do I wish to be a health care professional? The forte that you just opt for is thoroughly inappropriate at your degree. If you're that impatient then maybe take a look at whatever else, medication is an extended slog anything you opt for. GP is fastest, however no longer whatever I might wish to do. You would possibly uncover that you just love neurology, or cardiothoracics. You do not opt for your lifelong profession established upon the learning being a couple of years shorter.

If you don't have a family Dr you should, locate one and designate him/her as your primary care physician.
Don't take this the wrong way, but you might look into an oncologist too for that bump (and soon)
