As the saying goes, " The early bird gets the worm " or in this case a date to homecoming. I would ask her asap before you loose your nerve or someone else asks her first. That will give her lots of time to get a dress etc. Desperate people as those that ask right before the dance because there is no one else to ask. Just do it... now..

I would ask now its about three weeks. I would say the very latest to ask would be no later than the end of this month. If you have someone in mind I go ahead and ask therefore you will have the date you want and not get stuck going with someone else.

Ask now. The latest you should ask would be a week ahead of time, but that's cutting it very close.

ask as soon as possible.
if you wait until the last minute, she could already be going with somebody else.
on the other hand, if you ask too early, you run the risk of her making new plans. but if she breaks plans with you to go with somebody else, chances are, she's not the right girl for you to be going with anyway.
so earliest? today.
latest? september 20ish.

Mine is the same day, but everyone asked in August. It is stupid. But I would do it when other people start. Once one person starts asking everybody follows.
