I regret to inform you that Microsoft has been a bit slipshod with PowerPoint for Mac. You can choose Presenter Tools from the View menu and see thumbnails but they are way too big even after you drag the divider all the way to the left and the screen is totally engulfed by the PP window like the old versions of iMovie that drove me crazy.

If you ever get really fed up with Office for Mac, take a close look at iWork. The Keynote presentation app is so far superior to PowerPoint it is amazing. The price is a welcome relief, too, at 80 bucks. It has a perfect thumbnail view and themes and effects that rock compared to the grandma themes of PowerPoint. You want to show four pictures? Put them on each side of an animated rotating cube. You can even open the documents in PowerPoint although some of the cool effects may not work right with lame old PowerPoint.

Hi,

It's partly my fault. But if you want this feature in Office 2008 then use the feedback feature on PowerPoint's help menu to let Microsoft know you want this view.
