Out of the KING JAMES VERSION of the Holy Bible:

Exd 20:2 I [am] the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Exd 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Exd 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God

----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you stipulate that the God of the Bible is ALWAYS TRUTHFUL, these statements demonstrate that there ARE OTHER GODS than the God of Israel. If these Gods did not exist, why would the Lord God of Israel have to state that He is a "jealous god"?

If OUR Gods do not exist, what REASON would there be for Him to be jealous?

Well theoretically, that paragraph doesn't even condemn polytheism.
"Thou shalt have no other gods before me"
Does that mean that you're welcome to have other gods, as long as you worship the sky daddy as the first and the most important one?
Why of COURSE, why else do cristians worship three gods (the trinity), along with all the saints, angels, and all the idolatry like pictures, statues, stained glass images... That's polytheism at its finest.

enable us to ask ourselves a question- in case you kill harmless human beings and sense no remorseful approximately, do you fairly have the holy spirit living interior you? maximum possibly no longer. the bible states you ought to repent. a synonyme for repent is popping away. in case you proceed doing all your sinfull acts and sense you're ok, did you fairly repent? The bible does no longer condemn slave possessing. Ephesians, i ignore the place. You enter the dominion of God by ability of accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. If somebody commits horrendous acts, then they have been probable no longer stored interior the 1st place. yet- no sin is larger than the different and none are previous forgivness.

This is a very valid question..... and I can only answer in this way....... *god* and *God* or 2 different entities, names, descriptions....... along with the verses you quote, you should also have put all the ones that say, *that can not think*, *that can not hear* , *that can not talk*, *that can not love*, those also are in the Bible, I would have to find each one....... When using the word *god*, in translation, it refers to *anything* that is worshiped, gold, people, spirits, items and idols, money, rocks, trees, anything OTHER than the creator.. He is stating that creation is NOT greater than the creator !!! We often say things like, when referring to other people * ohhh, They think they are the god of ________*, fill in the blank..... that does NOT mean he is a literal god of anything..... and the jealous part, Yes, God is a jealous God, of all things that MAN has put before Him....... Just as a wife, I would be jealous if my husband put his work, or hunting or anything else before MY NEEDS !!!! go in peace...... God bless

Oh yes, they are other gods, but we Christians have the contact to THE GOD. The only one that was manifest in the natural realm. The fullness of THE Godhead, bodily. While on earth His name ( in English ) is Jesus.

Heck, the word says the WE are gods. Not THE GOD. We can give and take life. We can create. We can judge.

But, the ONLY way to have an eternal life WITH God is through Jesus.

There are all kinds of gods.

The trouble I see is what you consider the '...other gods...' to be.

Not that complicated.

Because in this case, the term "jealous" doesn't have a negative connotation. Rather than implying envy or pettiness, jealous also means:

Vigilant in guarding something: We are jealous of our good name.

Intolerant of disloyalty or infidelity; autocratic: a jealous God.

There are plenty of false gods: everything from idols to demonic spirits masquerading as deities. There is only one living and true God, the Sovereign Lord of Heaven, and He is vigilant in guarding both the sanctity of His Holy Name and the safety of His people.

To do so, He cannot allow infidelity or disloyalty to creep in on the part of those who claim His Name. Far from being petty or spiteful, He protects His own against the attacks of demonic spirits who pretend to be "gods" and want to take His place. Their motives are to kill and destroy, not love and protect as Yahweh does.

Yup, other gods did indeed exist, and some are mentioned by name in the Old Testament.

A fundie will tell you that the other ones are either:
a) false, made up by people
b) fallen angels
c) powered by fallen angels

There is a need for basic understanding of scriptural grammar here. Whenever the bible refers to the God of the bible a capital "G" is used. Whenever the bible speaks of lesser gods a lower case "g" is used. The only true God says, "I alone am God." The lesser gods he was referring to are the things that man fashions for himself out of wood and bronze and bows down and worships them. They are lifeless, unable to speak, hear, or do anything. They are useless. God says He is a jealous God because He wants to be the ONLY object of our worship. He does not want us worshipping our wave runners, houses, jobs, spouses, children or anything or anyone else before Him. He alone is God. If you are not worshipping Him, you are worshipping something else - a "g"od.

You can understand if you are willing.

God loves you.

I have no problem saying there are other gods, why even most 'christians' worship the god of their own mind.

It's which god you choose to worship that is key.
