Yes, take him to the vet for proper treatment. It sounds like an eye infection which could be bad if left untreated. He will most probably need some eye drops for the infection.

I know you probably arent looking for this, but the vet is likely the best thing. I cannot think of a single home remedy for yellow mucus. Sounds serious (although I cannot see it). Infection? Your dog could possible lose vision in that eye if not properly treated.

My dog got an eye infection and my vet said to bathe it in tea. I did and it cleared up the infection
put tea bag in boiling water then wait for the water to go cold then drip the tea from the teabag into dogs eye then hold tea bag over eye for about ten seconds. you probably need to do both eyes. use a diferent tea bag each time.

Feels like an illness, however then again, best your vet can make a correct diagnosis, and prescribe treatment. I would not ever rely on the recommendation, of complete strangers, in relation to my dogs' well being, so why would you?

get a wash cloth with warm water on it, and wipe it away every once in awhile, if it continues you might have to take the dog to a vet so they can give him some antibiotics to put in his eye

sounds like an infection, yet in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, in straightforward terms your vet could make a incredible diagnosis, and prescribe therapy. i wouldn't in any respect rely on the advice, of entire strangers, whilst it is composed of my canines' wellbeing, so why might you?
