According to Devil's highway "Mexicans triying to cross the border are human beings like everyone else that has had bad fortune of tough economic conditions so they should be respected". In the book he is describing these conditions and historic events that lead to begining of illegal immigration into the US. He thinks that " In the origins it was the Chinese people coming from Mexico to work on the railroads; because they were needed however for some reason they were chased and deported. The author beleives that "the parallelism with our time is obvious because there are still several tasks in the US that Americans reluctant to do or at least there are not enough Americans willing to to them; therefore America need illigal immigrants for the economy".
What do you think, do you beleive are these millions of illegal immigrants needed for the economy and yet there is nothing Americans do about it?

No, they do not benefit America. It's over crowded and no longer safe in the streets. The unemployment rate is still rather high, and I'm sure if the Companies that hire illegals would be less selfish and greedy, then our people would have an opportunity to bring food to the table and as a result decrease the rate of homelessness. I believe that not all homeless people deserve to be homeless or it was not their decision to be. Our schools are overcrowded as well, more (illegal) students attending and not enough teachers or budget to provide the resources (American) students need to learn. These are just some examples... They do somewhat, but by weighing all the factors, the results would be more of a drain instead... I"m all for hard working individuals, but I want to see those hard working individuals doing things legally, and not illegally. It's just not right.

There is one fact you others should know. Mexican and other immigrants illegal legal aren't coming here to help our economy. They are here to take legally or illegally.

If their country doesn't work it is their responsible not ours to elect the right people. You don't see Americans running off to other countries because things don't work out here we get involved in what is going on in this country.

Did the author of the book tell you how many revolutions Mexico had in 100 years. When things didn't work out they revolved. There has been many books written on that and a few movies.
They ought to do what their ancestors did. Viva Revolution!

I think Mexico has become really dependent on the US and vice versa, and there's been years and years of illegal business along with the illegal immigration, but really doing anything about it has been a longstanding problem for both countries. I still think that a 6-month 'time out' with the border closed would probably only help get things sorted out, probably stop a lot of crime, but first you'd have to have honest politicians to get that job done, and good luck with that...

The only way we can find out is if they (Illegals) leave and after about 2 years we would know for sure. Then every one would either support or be against a reform in immigration.
2 years would be a good amout of time to adjust to the change. Since I live in Mexico right now, I think if about 19 million people came back, Mexico would be bound to improve and the Mexicans would want to stay.

What did he say about the 5 million plus that are receiving well fare benefits and never worked a day in there life in the U.S. Hmm, let 1 m in to help support them or get rid of 5 m that the economy is supporting. I vote for the latter.

If we need workers, we can import them from all over the world, once again the USA has the right to set it's own immigration policy not the illegals no matter how hard working or well intended

Why should we spend over $50 BILLION each year for criminals that take jobs from Americans, crowd our schools so teachers can't teach, bankrupt our health care system, bring disease into our country, steal identifications, break our laws, increase drugs & crime, increase drugs, disrespect out country & our laws & our flag and give little in return?

Our economy would be much better without the 20 to 30 million illegal aliens!

They are not needed for any jobs. All jobs that are done by illegal immigrants can be done by legal citizens and are done by legal citizens. In fact, legal citizens make up the majority of workers in each of the fields where illegal labor is used.

Illegal aliens are chosen for this work because they are willing to do these jobs for less than the minimum wage required to do these jobs legally.

Consider this. I post a sign outside my business looking for someone to hire: "Cashier Needed, $1.50/hr". When no American applies, I can assume that this is a job that Americans don't want or will not do. Many people in China are willing to work for even less than this amount. Does this mean I need to import Chinese people illegally to meet my need for a cashier? Absolutely not. All I need to do is offer a fair wage, and Americans will apply for the position.

The only part of the economy that is dependent on illegal aliens would be the business owners who are able to increase revenue without increasing prices by instead cutting costs. When businesses cut costs illegally by hiring illegal labor, they do a disservice to their fellow Americans by reducing potential in the job market. They also do a disservice to the illegal aliens by taking advantage of their noncitizen status in order to pay them less.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung
it on my back porch and filled
it with seed. What a beauty of
a bird feeder it is, as I filled it
lovingly with seed. Within a
week we had hundreds of birds
taking advantage of the
continuous flow of free and
easily accessible food.

But then the birds started
building nests in the boards
of the patio, above the table,
and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was
everywhere: on the patio tile,
the chairs, the table ...
everywhere!

Then some of the birds
turned mean. They would
dive bomb me and try to
peck me even though I had
fed them out of my own
pocket.

And others birds were
boisterous and loud. They
sat on the feeder and
squawked and screamed at
all hours of the day and night
and demanded that I fill it
when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even
sit on my own back porch
anymore. So I took down the
bird feeder and in three days
the birds were gone. I cleaned
up their mess and took down
the many nests they had built
all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like
it used to be ... quiet, serene
and no one demanding their
rights to a free meal.

Now let's see ....
Our government gives out
free food, subsidized housing,
free medical care, and free
education and allows anyone
born here to be an automatic
citizen.

Then the illegals came by the
tens of thousands. Suddenly
our taxes went up to pay for
free services; small apartments
are housing 5 families; you
have to wait 6 hours to be seen
by an emergency room doctor;
your child's 2nd grade class is
behind other schools because
over half the class doesn't speak
English.

Corn Flakes now come in a
bilingual box; I have to
"press one" to hear my bank
talk to me in English, and
people waving flags other
than "Old Glory" are
squawking and screaming
in the streets, demanding
more rights and free liberties.

Just my opinion, but maybe
it's time for the government
to take down the bird feeder.
If you agree, pass it on; if not,
continue cleaning up the poop!
